Jeju Sees Record 75 Tropical Nights Despite Rainfall

Jeju Island had its 75th tropical night on Saturday despite the rainfall, setting another new record.

According to the regional office of the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) on Saturday, lows for the previous night were 26-point-four degrees Celsius on the northern part of the island, 26-point-five degrees in Seogwipo, which sits along the southern coast, and 27-point-three degrees in Gosan in the western part of the island.

A tropical night occurs when temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day.

The northern part of Jeju has seen a total of 75 tropical nights so far this summer, setting fresh highs every day after breaking the previous record of 56 set in 2022.

The figures for Seogwipo in southern Jeju, Seongsan in eastern Jeju, and Gosan marked 68, 59, and 51, respectively, all posting record highs since record-keeping began for the regions.
