  1. You mean the French-Canadian docu-film? It’s not Russian, and it’s not propaganda. The problem is it’s about facts that conflict with the Western narrative “good guys vs bad guys”.

  2. Russians are still humans. I don’t see a problem with them getting a chance to expose their perspective on things. Watching a film doesn’t make someone agree or supports the ideas that it communicates.

  3. Why? It’s not propaganda and doesn’t portray Russians in a good way. It’s banned in Russia and the filmmaker won’t be able to go back there

  4. Is this movie available online? I’m very curious about what’s exactly in it to cause so much controversy

  5. Valuable-Regular5646 on

Creator of this film should be banned from ever making movies again, filthy dog of Putin

  6. People sure seem very knowledgeable about the movie here considering it’s only been shown in a few festivals so far. From my understanding it shows Russian troops being used as cannon fodder and demoralized so on paper that sounds like a strange way to film propaganda but it makes more sense to watch the full movie before forming an opinion.

  7. How the fuck did this even get made? And with European funding to boot? And why even screen it in Venice? What the actual fuck?

  8. “Oh but it’s a documentary it’s sacred”

No. It’s whitewashing propaganda and pandering disguised as a documentary.

  9. Think of propaganda like a iceberg.

The 10% that you see is the part they want you to see. It is the ‘proof’ of their message. It is what they show you to prove you need to look no further.

But the real power of propaganda is the ability to suppress the remaining 90%.

Suppose someone turns around and says it is in your best interest that the alternative opinion is not heard. Now imagine being the viewer who thinks ”This is good”.

The most effective form of censorship is self-censorship.

  10. Could somebody give me some backstory on the propganda aspects of this film, I was under the impression it was very anti war and the general sentiment shared throughout the film is the soldiers don’t want to be there.
