  1. Seems like there should be an easier way to verify a passport. It’s not like women having short hair is a new thing.

  2. I’ve seen a fair share of bad stories about tourism in Egypt, doesn’t look like a tourist friendly country at all, a shame really.

Add this to the list of travel horror stories in Egypt. Which there seems to be no shortage of.

  4. Hurghada Airport is not proper “commercial” the way we use that word.

It was built in the 60s specifically for tourists. There is literally no other reason to go there – just tourism. No egyptian is using the airline.

A few dozen resorts have direct hourly busses running from the airport.

It’s the second busiest airport in the middle east JUST because of tourism

Considering ALL of that, maybe can like – idk, be more fucking lenient with western tourists? You ain’t Qatar, Egypt – you’ll die without tourism. If i was in charge there i’d be looking to get some positive press out there asap.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you jesus.

  5. I honestly have to check whether it is the Onion putting these out and then I see this actually happened and I just quietly shake my head. 🙁

  6. No offense, but LGBTQ+ people really have a hard on for thinking that Muslim countries are respectful of them. They seriously need to wake up.

    Why even go there?

  7. Islamic states. These dumps must be the only places on earth that try to actively push back progression of society

  8. I’ll make sure to tell my daughter about this one so she never mistakenly decides to visit Egypt, better to look at the pyramids from a distance of thousands of miles via the Internet or those ancient things called books.

Learn about the countries you’re going to and how they treat their minorities, it might just save your life!

It really is the new Satanic Panic. Conspiracies of a secret threat hiding in plain sight, requiring everyone be investigated.

A 15-year-old essentially sexually assaulted by security because they think that’s better than missing an opportunity to harm a transgender person. And they think this makes them good people.

Reactionaries want to import this into civilized countries. What a terrible time to be a kid.

  11. Fuck the middle east. Bunch of ass backwards religious zealots. I’m never traveling anywhere that has state sponsored religion. It’s always terrible for human rights and dignity.

  12. This child’s parents are entirely to blame. We can lament that this region is backwards in human-rights ask we like, but both the victim and the victim’s partner’s parents should know better than to allow their child to travel to a country that is plainly hostile to equal human rights with her same-sex partner.

It wreaks of a privileged lack of self-awareness that these parents let their dating children travel together to a region that is openly hostile to same-sex relationships.

Look, many in this region expect women to be completely covered, quiet, and traditional.  This is the parent’s fault for allowing this travel to even happen

  13. Oh wow you mean a Muslim country wasn’t putting the focus of some tourists mental health first?? Who would have thought…
