It isn’t virtue signalling. It’s providing health care.

Aontu are against a woman’s right to choose when it comes to abortion and also. Backwards.

Aontu and others are even hesitant for sexual education to be taught in schools.

What does virtue signalling even mean anymore? Like if it’s actually achieving something can you still call it that?

  3. I still can’t actually believe men don’t understand anything about the pill or the reasons why it is prescribed and that most girls are on it to ease painful periods, severe acne etc

  4. So he wants to restrict contraception in a country with legal abortion, resulting in more abortions.

Shouldn’t he be trying himself for murder then so 😂

  5. I might even go as far as say the majority of women, young and old, take the contraceptive pill not to avoid pregnancy, but for health reasons such as regulating periods and the pain that comes with it for some.

  6. This is actually an action, which achieves a societal good. He knows it’s not actually “virtue signalling”, he’s just proving his credentials by objecting to it.

So what Tóibín is doing, making useless noises that serve no other purpose but to telegraph to his supporters that he’s maintaining their ideological line, actually *is* virtue signalling.

It’s funny, almost all accusations of the same now serve only that purpose, which is an irony I can’t even articulate.

What is he on about, I was put straight on contraceptive at 16 and no not because I was sexually active but because I had extremely heavy and painful periods that had made me extremely anaemic so it was to regulate and lesson the symptoms. I wouldn’t have made it through those cycles without it.

What is he on about, I was put straight on contraceptive at 16 and no not because I was active in that area but because I had extremely heavy and painful periods that had made me extremely anaemic so it was to regulate and lesson the symptoms. I wouldn’t have made it through those cycles without it.

  9. Him saying that is “virtue signaling” to his own crowd of religious conservatives more than someone making a push for something to actually happen.

  10. This is one of a few different areas where I think Donnelly should get credit as Health Minister.

  11. This cunt went and set up a party because he refuses to accept the will of the people. He needs to spend less time worrying about what teenagers are up to

  12. Aontu had a guy in newstalk (maybe Luke Silk) and he managed to try and link this measure to both human trafficking and the murder of Anna Krigel. I was stunned. I actually found it quite upsetting.

While I understand it’s an anomaly to provide birth control to people under the age of consent. I just could not fathom that this was the line Aontu chose to take. That implementing BC would increase murders of teenagers by other teenager and human trafficking.

  13. I’ve never heard anyone use the term “virtue signalling” without sounding like an absolute weapon, it’s always used as a worthless cudgel to attack something that might improve some people’s lives in a way that has no meaningful effect on others. In short – loada shite.

  14. Has “Virtue Signalling” lost all meaning now too? Because in what way is this virtue signalling? This is a healthcare issue that has nothing to do with some weird culture war that some people are determined to import from the US just to have something to do.

What virtue is he claiming is being signalled?

    He’s a reactionary Catholic extremist.

This is just old Catholic prudes being upset by the reality that teens are having sex, and they’re jealous and mad.

  17. Ah aontu, assumed that people voting against 2 shite referendums was a vote of confidence in them and managed to get 2.9 percent of the local election vote…

When my 80 something year old aunt was starting to make positive noises about them I reminded her when PT left SF and she was appaled and her view changed back quickly

Ah christ, this fella is a so backwards. He’d be better off moving to the US and joining the Republican party.

  19. ya_bleedin_gickna on

Peadar Tobin is a reprehensible prick. His holier than thou, self righteous, sneery attitude sickens my shit.

  20. Of course it’s Aontu… Fucking clowns the whole lot of ’em. I’m surprised they’ve not joined up with Heinrich Barrett and his pals in the Irish SS

  21. Virtue signalling: taking a stance against a government policy while providing no reasonable alternative or policy in its stead.

Not virtue signalling: a policy which uses state money to provide a tangible service to citizens who want and need that service.

    Projecting much?

  22. earth-calling-karma on

Complete lack of virtue amirite hurhur. Don’t worry Peadar and his paternal politics knows what’s best for the little womens.

  23. People hate Stephen Donnelly but stuff like this proves he’s actually been a pretty good Minister for Health.

  24. The minister would rather cheap token measures like free HRT or condoms than actual system reform.
