August is supposed to be the time when there is the least because the new season rice typically begins in September, so I can understand the supply/demand argument.

Wait for the new excuses as to why rice will still be expensive from this month too, though

  2. Who in the fuck goes to Japan (with probably just 1 big luggage item available) and buys 5-10 kg of rice, enough to cause a lack of stock?

I understand it is easy to say “hey, lots of foreigners around right? it is probably their fault”, but in this case it makes 0 sense. I could understand blaming it on purchases from people overseas made online due to the weak yen? (better not give them any ideas…)

  3. Paid ¥5,500 at Costco for 10kg, as my local Aeon hasn’t had rice the last few times I’ve checked. Outside of the odd packet of microwave rice.
