  1. This is lacking context for most of us. A quick google search shows him being a boxer, but nothing here about what he has supposedly done. And if this is a good thing or not

  2. More information will be provided later.

*UPD:* The boxer’s wife announced on Instagram that everything is fine, and that Oleksandr will reveal the details later.

    *UPD#2:* For context: https://united24media.com/latest-news/boxer-and-world-champion-oleksandr-usyk-detained-at-krakow-airport-2408

*UPD#3:* “I have been informed that everything is fine now, our champion has been released and is no longer being detained,” President Zelenskyy noted.

*UPD#4:* Oleksandr Usyk clarified the situation after an incident at Kraków Airport, calling it a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved:

“Dear Friends. A misunderstanding took place. It was quickly resolved. Thanks to all who got concerned. Thanks to Ukrainian diplomats for the efficient support. And respect to Polish Police for conducting their obligations with no regards to height, weight, reach and regalia. Thanks God for everything,” he noted.

  3. Very interesting. Usyk is greatest heavyweight right now and one of the best of all time. He’s a big supporter of Ukraine defending itself and zelensky’s moves.

He stays away from trouble and controversies so this can’t be good

They didn’t let his companion on the plane, he said he wasn’t going to fly either, he must have resisted so they cuffed him

Want to know the details why he got arrested? Anyone has any news. This guy apparently doing a lot of good things for Ukrainian cause.

  6. Prolly some unknown funding being moved around and some Russian duckweed’s being connected without him knowing, there TONS of money floating around him and the boxing league. Who knows maybe one of the company or his managers did some sketchy shit. If not I’m totally wrong and it’s hopefully some airport bullshit everyone deals with. He’s probably not at fault at all, shitty to post before knowing.

  7. I’m thinking one of two things, one someone who handles his finances is in trouble and he got dragged in, or 2 this was for his safety and was a charade.

  8. He is already released. We will have to wait to find out the details. I suspect he committed an accidental customs violation but this is a pure speculation, it just tends to be a common cause of being temporarily detained.

  9. Poland & Ukraine are strange bed fellows. Despite Poland supporting Ukraine’s war with russia, these two neighbors are domestically always in each other’s neck.

  10. This is unconfirmed, but it sounds like someone with him was not going to be able to fly with him for some reason. Just a guess, but arguing with the crew can get you kicked off a flight and in many countries that triggers a required interview with police after leaving the plane. He has a good reputation, no real past scandals or anything. I hope this is a big nothing-burger.

Ukraine president Zelenskyy has actually borderline argued with polish authorities over their unwillingness to shoot down Russian airborne targets. Poland might be retaliating this way. Just speculation.

They thought he was a Russian conscript that was trying to escape to Poland then realized he’s a big time boxer from Ukraine.

  13. But it would have been cool for him to visit the most notorious Polish prison and have him speed run a Prison Boxing Super Series bracket to come out on top and “win” his freedom.
