What do we want?
#*MORE HOUSES*
Where do we want them?
#*FUCK YOU*
For context this is student accomodation
3rd time developing the site has been blocked. Previously had fast track (ha!) permission for 132 apartments which was taken to high court and then permission for 698 bed student accomodation was blocked by high court too. High Court are basically our planning authority now, which is a ridiculous state of affairs.
Not exactly a concrete jungle out in Goatstown that the need to keep the site as empty space (reason this development is being challenged) is justified. More NIMBY shite as usual, wealthy ones out there too.
I did not know councils could vote in private?
.
The motion to dezone the site from residential to open space was initially proposed by Fine Gael councillors Barry Saul and Jim O’Leary.
At the time, Mr Saul argued that throughout the development of the overall site a 25 per cent open space requirement had not been maintained.
However, Colbeam Ltd has argued that the 25 per cent open space provision has been maintained, “and further development of the student site would actually improve the pro-rata percentage of open space”.
It claimed that if development were to proceed, more than 48 per cent of the campus would function as open space while 37.5 per cent per cent of the site would be accessible to the general public for recreational use.
Didn’t get a few bob in the pockets I reckon
They need to get this to An Bord Pleanála!

Already an investigation supposed to be ongoing into why the land was re zoned.
The local schools have said they are happy there is enough room to expand, but two locals have brought a judicial review and won. They are concerned about the density and lack of light in a suburban area.
This is clearly misuse of public funds to resist a development because a few people can’t accept they live in the south of the city not the county. If places like carrickmines, stepaside, dundrum can build numerous apartment blocks this area is not too suburban to handle it.
These people are piss takers of the highest order and wasting public money to do so.
They do this because they know the only pushback they get is tutting and eye rolling from people.
Typical capitalists blocking vital infrastructure for our students.
Wake up babe, politicians are re-zoning land in South Dublin for personal gain again!
