Ex-BBC anchor given suspended sentence for having indecent images of children Former BBC news anchor Huw Edwards has been handed down a suspended sentence for possessing sexual images of children.

A London court judge sentenced Edwards to six months in prison, suspended for two years for receiving pictures and videos between 2020 and 2021. Edwards allegedly received the images from a man he met on social media and sent the man money and gifts.

The allegations came to light after a British tabloid published a report in July 2023 and investigators decided to indict Edwards.

The 63-year-old pleaded guilty but his attorneys argued that he was physically and mentally unwell.

BBC has released a comment saying, “We are appalled by his crimes. He has betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him.”

The broadcaster said Edwards resigned in April due to health reasons.

Edwards was one of BBC’s main news anchors for more than two decades. In September 2022, footage of him wearing a black tie and announcing the death of Queen Elizabeth II was broadcast around the world.
