    > He imposed reporting restrictions on the identity of the accused following an application by Garda McDermott based on “the current climate in the country”.

    This is sickening.

Obviously he’s a foreign national. Report the facts of the case.

  2. Why is the guard asking for reporting restrictions? should be the accused’s legal representatives job, not the prosecutor like. Doesn’t look great at all for the guards to be asking for it.

Maybe everyone else at the party were paedos and this guy was taking them away for their safety, right?

  4. Honestly, this is a very disturbing story and not naming the culprit is more disturbing.

I get there is a charged political climate but there is very big questions to be asked on domestic security and the absolute collapse of our immigration system to the point where state departments don’t even know the background of who is in the country.

I think not naming is a big mistake that will lead to further suspicion and division.

  5. Years back my young cousin was almost kidnapped in broad daylight outside his house. A van drove up and was about to snatch him (arms outstretched) and as luck would have it his ma was on her way out to him and saved him. She got the reg and reported it. The Gards later confirmed the van had been stopped for other reasons in rosslare while boarding the ferry later that same day. The child would have been on the continent in less time than it would have taken the Gards to even mobile and alert. I’d say that despite technology it can only be easier these days.

  6. “Sure did you hear father? They’re just robbing babies now.” – Father Ted probably…

EDIT: already? 😂 Ahh stop, like shooting fish in a barrel!

  7. “He imposed reporting restrictions on the identity of the accused following an application by Garda McDermott based on “the current climate in the country””

This protects the government more than anything. They don’t want the public to know that our background checks are so poor that any criminal can just show up and reside in Ireland at the tax payers cost.

  8. This is wrong. This will just fuel further disinformation and lack of trust in our justice system.

If the perpetrator is a country hopping passport burning new arrival the public have a right to know. And the authorities need to be held accountable.

  9. This is extremely serious stuff here, child’s life could have been changed for ever, never mind the affects of an alledged kidnapping. Child’s identity should be protected. If found guilty then the accused should definitely be named.
