  1. The anger I felt at the people who went on TV and radio, personalities and politicians who claimed it was a hoax. I hope all of the children involved have since recovered from the tragedy.

  2. Republicans can’t really think they will win this year right? Like we have put children thru hell the last 18 years and they are just now getting a chance to vote. I highly doubt they will vote for the group that refuses to do anything or says time to move on when they get shot at.

  3. When my students ask what hiding in a corner with the lights off will do to protect them, I respond with “when you’re old enough to vote, vote for those that are actually trying to change things. Because until those people are in charge, this is what we got. In the meantime, tell your adults to vote.”

  4. I bet this is really personal for them too. They themselves suffered the effects of gun violence, and they probably don’t wanna pass it on to future generations.

I was 13 when Sandy Hook happened. I remember all the outrage and anger around it. We need to vote out the Republicans that enable this kind of shit so that there can be no more Sandy Hooks out there.

  5. I was once a Sandy Hook denier along with a host of other kooky conspiracy ideas that I picked up while I was in the depths of a drinking problem. When I got sober someone calmly and reasonably helped me understand how I had been radicalized by easily provable logic. There is hope for people like me who were corrupted and poisoned by false narratives on the internet. It takes patience and a loving approach.

My kid started kindergarten the year after Sandy Hook. They have never been in a school without Active Shooter Drills. They are less than two weeks off of being able to vote this election and they are PISSED.

  7. I was 25 and I’ll never forget the callousness of the right mocking President Obama for being emotional about the situation.

  8. It’s heartbreaking to think that those kids, who faced such unimaginable tragedy, are now old enough to vote. Their voices will be crucial in shaping the future.

  9. It’s heartbreaking to realize how much time has passed since that tragedy, and now these survivors are about to vote for the future of our country. It’s a powerful reminder of why change is necessary.

  10. This milestone is a powerful reminder of how much time has passed since the Sandy Hook tragedy, and it underscores the importance of this generation’s voice in shaping the future. These young voters bring unique perspectives shaped by experiences of gun violence and safety concerns, potentially influencing the direction of policies they care about.

  11. The fact that the Sandy Hook survivors are now voting underscores how much time has passed since the tragedy, and it highlights the significance of their generation’s voice in shaping future policies, especially on issues like gun violence.

  12. Sandy Hook is when I officially gave up on Republicans and gun owners ever being reasonable. Classrooms full of toddlers and teachers brutalized and massacred with the only real result being conspiracy theories and less restrictive gun laws.

  13. 12 YEARS!!?!?

Man. Between the pandemic and trump I feel time has just disappeared. Just one giant blob and shit.

I remember being 9 when sandy hook happened and my dad explaining “false flag shootings” to me. I am so thoroughly excited for my vote to cancel out his, if he even bothers to show up.

  15. Hope they vote 3rd party. Because the one party pretending to be two has done and will continue to do NOTHING.

Both the parties have been in power since the sandy hook and no one has done anything about gun control. So there is that!

My children grew up by participating in active shooter drills. There soon realized that any potential student that was to become a shooter participated in these drills as well. This means they knew the plan of the school to deal with a shooter and could adapt their approach to limit its effectiveness.

No, it’s not “liberal activism” in schools that is causing so many young people to vote against Republicans. They grew up seeing the direct result of Republican policy and possess damn good reasons to angrily reject it.
