I don’t understand the recklessness of the parents who are putting their kids on these boats. If the UK had some cataclysmic disaster or similar tomorrow and I had to take my kid out of the country I’d be more than happy in any of the countries around us. I wouldn’t go window shopping and try to cross a large body of water in an over-crowded small dinghy ran by criminals when I was already far away from the harm.
I hope if the parents survived they’re charged with causing the death of a child, serve their sentence and are swiftly deported.
Pure greed and stupidity.

I suspect the increase in deaths is because of the UK and Europe stopping the purchases of boats and engines, meaning these gangs are using less and less safe boats to cross the channel. The only way to stop this is not “smashing the gangs”, it’s to set up a processing centre in Calais so that there are safe and legal routes to claim asylum in the UK. There’s a reason we don’t see Ukrainian refugees crossing the channel after all.

Horrible of course. But until we remove the reward for taking such a stupidly reckless journey they’ll keep doing it.
If they knew all that was waiting for them here was a purpose built facility where we provide bread water. They would stop coming

Smash the gangs. How is that going with drug gangs based in our own country?

Happened in French waters. None of these are caused by Britain.

Oh well. They knew the risks when they got on the boat.

I begin to think that everyone on one of these boats with children on it should face immediate charges of reckless endangerment. By setting out to sea they are clearly all endangering the child
Being an asylum seeker is not a crime but I think we go too far in turning a blind eye to what are actual crimes.

I came to the UK by plane, with my passport and my right to work, you know…

They probably shouldn’t have gotten on a small boat and tried to cross the channel then.

Well very unfortunate from a human perspective. But you either have borders or you don’t. Stop the boats and any illegal. Anyone legally entering welcome.

We need to give them a way to apply safely in France
Get declined / approved yeah whatever but to stop this needless loss of life is unneeded
