  1. Privatisation of waste collections has to be one of the worst decisions ever made in this country.

    FFFG, probably

  3. There’s a vacant council home near me whose garden is the unofficial dump for the entire block. Apparently someone running street cleaning at the council has told the residents to toss their domestic waste in there, and he’ll get it. But he doesn’t collect the couches, furniture and large items, and doesn’t clean up burst waste bags. It’s been this way for over 5 years, constantly have councillors badgering the director of services about it.

Every now and then they send a huge crew down and blitz it, put no dumping signs up, they’ve even refurbished the house fully, but they still didn’t put anyone in there and within days it’s back in use as a dump again.

~€1m a year is a lot less than I would have imagined to be honest.

DCC’s annual budget is €1.34bn. It’s a problem for sure but there’s undoubtedly bigger points of waste.
