  1. Just thought this was cool to share! There are a lot of islands in QLD that are just abandoned because of cyclone damages… They used to be great resorts.

  2. 2nd image, South Molle Island. Was “abandoned” before Debbie was hit. I worked on daydream when the cyclone hit. The maintenance team had someone on the island regularly up until Debbie.
Trying to keep it relatively “safe.” Staff would sometimes go over on their days off to explore.

The first one, in Yeppoon, was shit years before it closed. The pool area was nice but the rooms were disgusting. Stayed a couple of times and our room had blood stains on the carpet, no lock on the door and a sliding window to the balcony that wouldn’t actually slide. Oddly enough there’s still a Japanese restaurant out there.

I quite enjoyed my week on South Molle Island in the 1990s. It had a golf course and some awesome walking tracks.

It wasnt the cyclone that killed these resorts but the refusual to offer insurance in the aftermath of the cyclone.

A problem that more business and Australians will soon face.

  6. I would love to live in a desuetudinous tropical resort. Finding snakes everywhere would probably drive me crazy though.
