I think Maher was quite premature here, and it was unfortunate to see that last night. No, I’m afraid it won’t be over until it is in fact over.

To quote David Brooks’ NYT headline on 1.7.21: “This is when the fever breaks.” It was obvious even then Brooks was suffering from a fever dream.

  2. Maher is so smug and self-satisfied that even when I agree with him I think he should just shut the fuck up.

I cannot convey in human language how many times I’ve said something to the effect of “that’s it, Trump is done” and he somehow remains a viable candidate every single time.

  4. Not a Maher fan but If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, I agree. I think it’s over and I believe we will win.

I know how this sub gets about optimism but I stand confidently behind my education and knowledge on this game. I’m not going to be convinced otherwise based on others fears, predictions, and interpretations.

  5. I can’t imagine he’s gained many new voters or inspired any more turnout. Harris is surging. It’s looking good.

  6. Trump is a tumour. It isn’t over until he is surgically removed via a thumping at the ballot box, so overwhelming that only those too far down the MAGA hole could dispute it. Control the House, the Senate and the White House, until the Republicans finally learn that the experiment that is MAGA is a failure, and if they ever want power again, they need to rebuild from the ground up, with people who are actually sane, and have some semblance of reality.

I hope he’s right. I don’t share his confidence. This election is for some reason a complete coin toss at this point. So we gotta keep working. Volunteer if you can, donate if you can. We can’t get caught in the trap of “no way are enough Americans evil or stupid enough to vote for Trump now, we’ll be fine” because that’s what gave us 2016.

  8. Everybody is a fortuneteller, I hate this crap! Us humans are just going to have to see what happens, that’s how it works. Anyone that tells you different is full of $HIT & high on their own ego.

I feel Trump has his people ready to not certify the results or totally mess up the process in some fashion that votes get thrown out because of tampering. Don’t forget DeJoy, who is the Postmaster General; He is still overseeing the USPS. On top of all this, Putin could do something very influential close to the election that would alter the outcome.

    No it’s not.
People were riding high on Hillary too and we saw how that turned out.

Trump has full intentions on stealing this thing too

  11. Don’t forget that lot of people thought it was over after grab them by the pu*** tape came out. It ain’t over until the votes are counted.

Keep pushing until the democrats take the white house, house and senate. Keep moving the frontlines! The battle is far from over!

  13. Maher doesn’t know what he is talking about & there’s no polling to indicate that Trump is over.

Maher is the type of guy who thinks that the current vibe of the current political atmosphere given recent Trump events is going to determine how the election will unfold.

He doesn’t have any real data or insight into the American public voter, he doesn’t know whether or not the average voter is aware or is going to be aware of the recent events that built Maher’s current perspective.

This election is unnecessarily tight in its race & we have to behave as though we don’t have an advantage whatsoever.

  14. I mean, Jesse Watters and Karl Rove are talking about how bad Trump is doing. That says a lot. Numerous lifelong, dedicated Republicans have openly endorsed Harris. And yet…his cult like grip on his base won’t fade. Merely comes down to those few k in a couple of counties of numbnuts who, for whatever reason, seem to be having trouble making this extremely easy call.

  15. He needs to lose and lose in a wild landslide. Then he needs to be convicted on several of these cases, get sentenced… then he has my permission to die.

  16. Here’s what I think will happen

Trump will lose the election, but he won’t go away. We will still hear about his ramblings and criminal trials on a near weekly basis until he dies. He will not run in 2028, but a younger Trump surrogate will run instead (possibly Trump Jr). Trump will still be the center of the party and doing rallies as if he were running, but someone else will be on stage with him doing the actual running. Project 2025 becomes Project 2029. These people won’t go away or shut up.

The only way to get rid of them will be not only beat them in November 2024, but to outright humiliate them in the election. Any casual or reluctant republican needs to see that siding or appeasing Trump is political suicide. That party needs to completely fracture into rational Republicans willing to compromise and dillusional one’s pushing fascism. It’s possible the 2024 election could be a humiliating landslide, but I don’t think it will be that quick or easy. We are going to have 4 more years of listening to these asshats until they are beaten even worse in 2026 and 2028. Then maybe the Republican Party will split or shift. I know that sounds exhausting but the MAGA cult isn’t going away that easily
