Republican politicians have been telling this lie since the 1990s, not sure why it’s suddenly getting fact checked.

It doesn’t matter what’s true to him and pretty much everyone who still supports him. It’s the ultimate sunk-cost fallacy for anyone who supports him, they have to believe everything he says, which is actually pretty easy when he uses the exact same “I saw it on the television” reasoning and logic they do.
I honestly have no idea if there’s a way to bring these people back even if Trump and his ilk are completely defeated. Family members, friends, people I used to admire and trust who all blindly follow the most hateful moron I think I’ve ever seen and think they are smart for it.

This is what I was told in my catholic grade school. I was told by my teacher that if an abortion fails; the doctor will kill the baby after it’s born. I was told this as I was 11 years old. By a teacher. Every part of the church needs to be leveled to the ground.

The former Democratic governor of WV made a statement about palliative care for infants who are born alive with no chance to survive. This is a heartbreaking experience for parents to endure.
The Right wing, anti choice crowd then twisted the words of the former governor to claim that the pro-women’s rights movement was advocating for infanticide in a heartless and disingenuous attack on women’s reproductive rights.
Edit: I’ve been corrected, this was Governor Ralph Northam of VA, not WV.

Rush Limbaugh was saying BS like this years ago. It’s been a right wing nonsense issue for decades. My dad used to tell me that Democrats were allowing after delivery abortions and 8-9 month abortions all the time. It’s a lie and always has been. Hate mongering, fear mongering, lying and grifting has been a long time practice for the GOP and why anyone will actually support this evil, criminal, nonsense is just baffling to me. It’s a cult.

It isn’t just trump. The right wing media pushes this fiction by pushing narratives about not saving non viable newborns by branding them as abortions when they’re not.

> Can doctors kill babies after they're born? Excuse me for a moment while I state the bleeding obvious: there is no state in the US where it is "OK" to kill a baby after it is born.
> If a baby is born with a condition that means it's not going to survive more than a few hours, for example, the former wording would have forced doctors to keep that baby alive as long as possible, even if it was suffering.
> "No one's sitting there saying: 'We should let this baby die.' Everyone is making really hard decisions." The former wording of the Minnesota law might have forced medical professionals to take extensive measures that would have prolonged the baby's life in a way that wasn't meaningful in order to ensure nobody got in legal trouble.

Senator Marco Rubio (aka Little Marco) made a comment post-debate about doctors giving palliative care to infants.
You know, because there are *zero* reasons why infants need palliative care at birth. They don’t have conditions like tay sachs, cardiomyopathy, or acinar dysplasia or anything. It’s like that chucklefuck who doubted that women bleed out in parking lots because he’s never met one.

I can confirm republicans don’t generally have any problems with those. Heck sometimes the law enforcement will even wait for you outside while it’s happening

I live in Virginia and heard Northam on the radio when he made these comments:
He was asked about a proposal to lift restrictions on third trimester abortions (MAGA speak is “late term abortions – 7th, 8th, and 9th months). He was against lifting the restrictions.
Roe vs Wade divided a pregnancy into three trimesters. In the third trimester a panel of doctors and ethicists must concur that an abortion is ethical and appropriate.
In practice, there are really only three reasons to follow an abortion in the third trimester. First, death. If sustaining the pregnancy is going to cause the death of the mother an abortion is ethical. Second, severe damage. If sustaining the pregnancy will cause severe damage to the mom and/or her ability to have more kids then an abortion is ethical. Generally in these cases the abortion is an unplanned emergency.
The third reason is what Northam was talking about – fetuses that have no chance at life. Aborting the kid before they mature to the point they can feel pain is the mercy option. But before such an abortion is allowed the full panel of doctors needs to concur that the kid has no chance at life.
This is necessity because there are only limited ways to diagnose a terminal kidney in the womb. Sonograms can pick up major problems, like lungs too tiny to work, but not subtle neurological malformations.
I can say from personal experience that these are incredibly stressful decisions. There is no time, there is no data, and the prognosis is uncertain. The legal system should never be involved.
