My maternal side have family history of having distant Ottoman ancestry and they are also from a coastal town (Monastir) in Tunisia which are known to have families of Ottoman origins, I have been told that I am descendant of a Ottoman officer that served for the Ottoman Empire during the Ottoman rule in Tunisia.

So through DNA testing and analyzing my DNA, I strongly believe that the Ottoman ancestor was as a Ottoman officer of Armenian origin.

  1. Also looks like city name Monastir comes from Greek and means monastery. Are there old monasteries, or anything related to Greek or other Christian communities?

  2. How distant of an ancestor are you talking about? Grandparents parents or more like you dont know of anything about these people. Ottomans have been in Tunisian history since around the 1500s.

Pretty funny I always thought North Africans looked a bit like Armenians. Specifically Algerians and Tunisians.
