  1. Ah yes Andy Haldane who was neck deep in the Tory government as head of Goves “levelling up” con

  2. He’s right, hyper fixating on this “blackhole” as people still struggle to afford the basics (which they are using as an excuse to do nothing about) is shameful neoliberal bullshit.

  3. I’d love it if we could end the transparently crooked practice of the media labelling their sources as ‘ex [xxx] official’ with zero further qualification, when the briefest bit of research shows that person to be entirely politically biased and beholden to one side of the argument.

It really would do the concept of journalistic integrity a world of good.

It’s tricky. When I was a full time car bodywork guy, I always used to feel like the whiniest bitch ever when I’d tell the customer that someone had previously bodged the car and it was worse than it seemed, I could see them thinking “here we go” but it was true, you didn’t see how bad something really was til you started sanding and cutting, and this was after you’d given them the quote, damned either way at that point, you tell them it looks like you’re setting them up to pay more money or accept a not-great job, you don’t tell them they wonder why it’s taking so long or why it’s not perfect at the end.

  5. The Tories have been considered the party of economic competence for most of the last 50 years. Even when the public have disliked them, they’ve still generally rated them as better with the economy. It might be the primary reason they’ve been our most successful political party.

Labour know that if they can end that reputation, the Tories are screwed for a long time.

  6. Was he the leader of the opposition?
Did he scrutinise everything the government did?
    He/they knew the situation

  7. You only need to do a cursory bit of digging to realise this Labour spin. Tories did a shit job, but the money Labour claim is a black hole is the money they have just spent on foreign aid, pay rises etc the numbers were freely available for them to see

  8. The black hole is a convenient way for the same austerity to continue from a party which has the facade of being a party of spending. George Osbourne V2.0.

It’s almost as if this government are trying to depress everyone even more. They saying a return to austerity when it never ended. Poor show so far.
