Insane that they’re not already paying a contribution . So they live rent free while the rest of us pay rent and bills! Nice!

Out of the Varadkar playbook of “man in charge of change, demands change” sort of statement there.

NGO outrage statement expected by end of day.

Ok. I agree. How?
Supply is already low, rents are already high. How are people actually supposed to do that? In the same way that everyone else cannot already do that?

Do working asylum seekers who work not pay tax on their wages?
senditup on
That’s funny, because people on this sub and elsewhere insisted that the volume of asylum seekers coming into Ireland had no bearing whatsoever on the housing situation here.

Get them to work before getting ahead of yourself.

What type of nonsense is this?
Asylum seekers should pay for some of their own housing? The same asylum seekers that get all of the money from the taxpayer/state which is already paying for the housing.
So rather than do something with the right hand the government wants to do something with the left hand and pretend that it’s completely different. There is an election coming up and Harris wants to look all tough ffs. This nonsense is just bread and circuses.
The mass deportation of failed asylum seekers past and present needs to happen to alleviate a fraction of the stress on health, public services and housing.
We need to stop being a soft touch for economic tourists to take advantage of.

So make it happen Simon. You’re the leader, make it happen.

That’s actually a great idea Simon. I just wish you were in a position where you could do something about it…

Is this to push non Ukrainians out of their accommodation?
fluffysugarfloss on
They need to extend this to Ukrainians. I volunteer with Ukrainians. I know several them working full time, living in hotels and b&bs provided by IPAS, and they’re contributing €10/day that’s it to their living costs. If you’re earning €350 or even €500 and your living costs are €70 a week, you’re winning.
