More likely the stuff that led him to be on the show in the first place but regardless it’s still very sad.
So he gets utterly humiliated on the show and commits suicide. Yes nothing to see here folks. I wonder how the shows management manage to sleep at night, utterly obnoxious show and presenter.
That era of television was disgusting, and something we should look back on with great shame. Poverty porn, social deprivation commentary and making it a sport kicking people while they’re down was so evil and cruel, and Jeremy Kyle was just one judge, referee and jury but certainly at the forefront of it all (the individual and the show named after him).
The various TV channels that aired this type of nonsense should be ashamed, assuming they find the time to wipe away their tears with the thousands (possibly millions) the raked in off the backs of this.
Yes the individuals consented to having their dirty laundry aired on TV, but facilitating and looking for it is particularly heinous, especially when a lot of them were obviously vulnerable.
Coroners are always pretty ropey with their verdicts/conclusions, especially in public cases. According to the coroner Gary Speed wasn’t a suicide because it was possible he meant to make a statement and then fell asleep, or something like that.
Funny how no one bothers to cancel love island when multiple ppl that was on that programme committed suicide and even the presenter aswell. Maybe itv should look into that programme aswell or maybe itv should be held accountable for there shit I mean love island Caroline flack fucking Phillip schofield the network is corrupt as fuck
What evidence was supposed to show on his body that he was on the Jeremy Kyle show?!! It is not a coroner’s job to decide this! It was suicide ffs.
The coroner basically says he died because his relationship broke down, and nothing to do with the JK show. But it was the JK show that killed his relationship once and for all by acting as if their pseudo-science lie detector drivel was unquestionable fact. So how on earth is that not related at all?
Coroners always do fuck all in suicide cases. Their main priority is always making sure nobody gets any blame, no matter how blatantly connected somebody is to the death. I’ve seen a case where the Psychiatrist recklessly changed a stable person’s medication, then didn’t arrange a check-up to make sure it was working out, ignored all messages that the person was feeling worse, ignored all messages that the person was intending to take their life, then didn’t receive any criticism at all from the coroner.
Coroners are utterly pointless.
Something that doesn’t seem to have really been addressed in the reporting I have seen on this is the fact that the results of lie detectors were a key part of the Jeremy Kyle show and were also used on this episode. Scientific studies have shown time and time again that lie detectors are completely unreliable and yet, aside from a small footnote on screen, this fact was never acknowledged on the show and the results were taken as the absolute truth in the same way that DNA test results were used.
Clearly this guy had a lot going on, but it’s obvious from all of the evidence given that the breakdown of his relationship was a huge contributing factor to his death. It’s also clear that he hoped an appearance on the show would ‘fix’ the relationship and ‘prove’ he wasn’t lying. Now obviously we’ll probably never know if he was indeed lying and being unfaithful, but regardless of this, the fact is that the show used the results of unreliable/unproven lie detectors to drive a storyline and that storyline directly led to a further breakdown of his relationship.
Even without the bullying claims and claims of humiliation, I can’t see how there isn’t a casual link here (at least in part). He was effectively thrown to the dogs on the result of a coin toss. And it’s utterly reprehensible that a daytime entertainment TV show was able to claim with absolute authority that things did or did not happen based on no evidence.
It had a huge following as well, reaching viewing figures of one million. Why were so many people interested in watching it. The people on it were vulnerable. It did say a lot about society.
Why are we hearing about this so much? Is Jeremy planning a fucking comeback tour or something?
The whole situation is beyond fucked up, that we even allowed JK to have a show for so long. But also because he’s absolutely going to get away with driving someone to suicide.
There’s plenty of cases where people are held accountable for driving others to suicide, but as usual, if you’re rich you simply get away with what others do not.
JSYK—purported “lie detector tests” are so fallible that not only are the results not admissable in either UK or US courts, the creator of the machine has long since disavowed it.
Oh, and you can also manipulate the outcome of the results by squeezing your butthole.Â
Mr gambling addict turned squeaky not clean tv presenter. For anyone that doesn’t know this show was on every day on itv; it was the dregs and even then it was shameless
It’s a dumb show that only exists to mock the less fortunate, but surely you should expect to be ridiculed if you go on?
Kyle is a cunt but Steve would have been mentally unwell before he went on the show. He should have been aware of what the show was like and shouldn’t have gone there as it could have been the tipping point. I suffer from suicidal thoughts but I know what it would do to my friends and family if I committed to it so I haven’t. (I’ve lost friends and family to suicide in the past). I’m very wary of what I involve myself in as I know there could be something that pushes me past the point.
How the fuck has that been given as a verdict? No clear link to being publicly humiliated on TV and suicide.
im so pissed off- how can he possibly come to this conclusion??
Why is no one addressing the fact that a so-called *Lie Detector Test* is complete bollocks? They are not admissible in court, and scientific investigation has shown them to have about the same accuracy as flipping a coin!
Yet Kyle and his producers were quite happy to exploit what they must have known was a flawed process, pretend it was reliable so they could exploit people’s mysery.
This is on Kyle.
Still a disgusting program. Bear baiting the lowest of our economic and social classes for cheap day time television. Trash show.
There’s a pretty obvious undeniable link…but I still don’t blame the show for that. He was a grown man who made his own bad choices.
He left a voice note for his missus outright calling out the show for driving him to the action he took.
The show’s been proven to have a history of lying, of winding guests up, of provocation, of making the lie detector sound far more accurate than it is. And having people on to do tests who were in no fit mental state/on medication which should have ruled them out.
I don’t understand the coroners ruling at all here.
Everyone who went on Jeremy Kyle knew what they were getting into. They knew what would happen, they knew what would be said.
It’s like a 40 year old bloke finding out wrestling isn’t real. Do people actually think they walked on stage for the first time and didn’t know what Jeremy was going to say to them?
I knew someone who worked on the show, the guests are coached extensively on how to act, what to say etc. They want a good show because that’s why people watched. Yes, the show actively targeted people with chaotic lives, but everybody who went on the show knew they’d be humiliated but did it anyway for the money.
Man, people really reaching here about how Jezza basically murdered this guy. Get a fucking grip. The guy begged to be on the show when he knew he’d cheated on his wife and thought he could play the numbers game.
He didn’t deserve to die but he absolutely deserved the fallout that happened after the the results came back.
I can’t say the show was healthy, either for the people appearing on it, the people watching it or for society in general but it is clear that this individual had a whole history of mental ill health that was nothing to do with the show
I had the miss fortune of being in the audience for a filming of Jeremy Kyle and he was a truly terrible men to the guests and even Graham. He even threatened to sack Graham for getting too involved, his words not my own.
ITV let him get away with so much, for so many years.
