  1. Do we really need another thread about this? It’s been covered to death in multiple other posts this week.

  2. Triple Lock has to go. Pension is supposed to tie to work, I don’t know why it’s pegged to inflation at all, and why the hell is there a minimum growth of 2.5%?? It’s not sustainable whatsover, at this rate I won’t get my pension until I’m 76. It should be double locked: wage growth or 0%, whichever is higher. Pension credit, on the other hand, should be pegged to inflation because it’s supposed to alleviate cost-of-living pressure. This way it’s somewhat “triple-locked” for the most vulnerable, but everyone else receiving private pension don’t get this absurd and unsustainable benefit.

  3. Is it too much to ask the **labour** party to do one (1) thing for the working people of this country?

  4. So that will mean the state pension will have increased by about £2.5k since 2021. And the highest energy cap was winter 2022 at £4k. It’s expected to be £1.7k this winter.

Therefore even without the winter fuel allowance every pensioner is much better off compared to 2/3 years ago. If they were able to survive when the energy cap was £4k, then why not now?

If we carry on like this we might get to the point where we avoid regular debates about the Winter fuel allowance.

  6. I am genuinely sick and tired of hearing pensioner this, pensioner that, they have had a fantastic run of it for 70+ years.

I am neither the older or younger demographic so aren’t dramtically affected either way but it is about time the country showed what it is going to do to help the young not have completely fucked up futures. Can we at least pretend we don’t despise the youth?

  7. The idea of a triple lock is absolutely terrible.

By indexing it to the *highest* of three measures, you essentially guarantee that you’re going to be spending a higher and higher proportion of GDP on whatever is triple-locked. And it just so happens that it’s one of the government’s main expenditures.

I’m no fan of means-testing the state pension. I think it introduces far too many cases where it’d change behaviour for the worse, and I really don’t think it’d save that much money – remember, the state pension payout for a couple is equivalent to ~£650k in assets, so you’d have to *start* the taper now.

However, the triple lock has *got to go*. It can’t continue; it is *mathematically guaranteed* to be unsustainable. Index it to inflation or average wage. One of the two.

Also, pensioners should have to pay National Insurance. And cap the tax free amount to £100k.

Those who won’t ending up like Jack Nicholson in “The shining” will sure be appreciating this ❤️

  9. More proof that this media-pushed furore over means testing the winter fuel payment is a bunch of tosh

  10. How they can justify a rise to the state pension when personal tax thresholds have been frozen since 2021 is beyond me.

I want the triple lock gone but considering that the media is going crazy about the winter fuel allowance then unfortunately the triple lock has to stay

  12. We have all paid in over the years it’s not a benefit it’s a right. The triple lock is a good tool to keep government on their toes with inflation and pay rises handing out willy nilly! The pressures on though as many of the pensioners that are retiring now are from the 50s/60s baby boom generation.
So triple lock it is and if you want to see an uprising that neither party wants them crap it and that party would never see power again. The winter fuel scrapping won’t ever be forgotten or forgiven. Oh and I’m not a pensioner I’ve made provisions with savings and private pension so I still chip into a broken all round system by the way of income tax

Yet they are kicking up a fuss about energy price subsidies for old people.

Seriously the pensioners of this country have lived through the huge level of state hand outs by mortgaging the future generations wealth.

I’m so sick of this crap

Boomers getting things handed to them on a plate as usual but when another handout is deservedly being amended like the Winter Fuel payment they’ll start screaming about it being unjust whilst driving a BMW to get to M&S for their next stock of red wines to be placed on their wine rack
