Any knowledge or information on this medal? Belonged to either my great grandfather or great great grandfather. It was recently left to me and everyone on that side of the family is now dead so I thought I’d ask here and if nobody recognizes it I’ll give a ouija board a try
I don’t know why…but I’ve a feeling it’s something to do with the Mater hospital
It would appear that yours is an earlier and much more ornate version. Maybe a jeweller near the hospital, or someone working at the hospital, could lend a bit more insight.
Shhhh_Peaceful on
Looks like it’s hand engraved.

Here’s a similar one just has a description of nurses badge for the Mater
Could be a staff award for being sound either – they have some articles about staff awards. Could email the hospital and see
It says Mater Miserecordia Hospital so definitely from there. The Irish underneath says Dia Eine- one God.
Was your relative a nurse?
My first thought was a nurses uniform medal. Were any of your GGGM or GGM’s trained as nurses?
A nurse’s award or commendation.
Mother of mercy hospital
The Mater Hospital itself may have a communication department or an archivist who might be able to give you info.

Here’s a Mater nurse’s badge from 1994.
