Here’s an idea – small businesses etc have to sign up to a scheme whereby their profits and or their revenue is tracked and locked.
Maybe even insured, anything to ensure they can’t just appear as a pair of dell boys out of nowhere and be gone like a fart in the wind.

Fuck off, how much have the big corporate chains like Amazon & Starbucks successfully evaded over the years? Claw some back from the big boys, not the small businesses who have a tough enough time as it is.

Someone thinks they are going to extract billions of pounds from American Candy stores?
Really?

Serious question, what is our government doing about all this tax evasion?
I read a few weeks ago that there is a 20BN tax gap from big corporations, weren’t they complaining about a 20BN gap in the economy? Get that back.
But nope, it is more important to take the WFA away… sigh.

Unfortunately our political class are more interested in demonising benefits claimants and insisting workers are too lazy rather than collecting billions in taxes which are illegally being avoided. Leaving all this money on the table is one of those ‘tough decisions’ they keep talking about.

Simply outlaw companies offshoring taxes on revenue earned here to Ireland, job done. Google, Amazon, Starbucks, they’re all at it.

It would be a good idea to allow HMRC employees to get bonuses that are a % of what they’ve managed to bring in from offenders. They need to be paid more

If small retailers did not do this they would not exist.

What you’re seeimg is the middle class now being chipped away at. Because the poor have been squeezed so much they’re is nothing left to squeeze. So, now it’s the working middle class. You think £80K a year is rich or well off? Think again. It used to be. Not anymore. They’re coming for us all. Look up Gary’s Economics on YouTube. He explains it extremely well. Time to start pulling out heads out of our arses and actually strive to make change. Else were all fucked.

This is another r/unitedkingdom not bothering to read the article but making the headline fit what they want to think!
What these companies do is have foreign ownership and directors of a business. They under report income and rack up debts to HMRC (and probably do a bit of money laundering) then declare bankruptcy. They then open a seemingly identical company with different foreign directors and shareholders doing exactly the same thing on the same site. The people mentioned on companies house probably don’t even exist.
This is due to changes in business registration bought in 2011: there is already legislation to change it but in the meantime it’s costing billions.
This is international fraud not the “small businessman catching up with Amazon.”

I work in courier services covering the London area & coming from a south Asian background I frequent most areas in the E postcode area (Commercial Rd, Romford Rd, Leyton High Rd), the number of corner shops/restaurants with zero/very few people getting paid NMW or even with right to work is alarmingly high. I’m not sure how it can be resolved. The missing NI employer payments, pension payments & so forth all tallies up.
The owners are laughing their way to the bank and aren’t even scared.

And even more billions lost from large corporations in tax evasion, tax avoidance, fraud, legalised backhanders… I could go on

Happens at every small business, trader, retailer etc.
Always has and always will. Maybe not having taxes so high so they have to do this in the first place.
