I am making a video about my Dierstein/Thierstein ancestors from the Emmental. One of them lived around Signau. For a period of time he owned an Inn that was referred to in 1610 as “zum Crütz.” In 1615, he sold the Inn to the Landvogt Frantz Küpffer and at that time it was called “zum wÿssen Crütz.” The Inn was supposed to be in Signau.
Today, there is a restaurant a kilometer from Signau there is the Restaurant Kreuz Schüpbach. I am wondering if there is any way to know if this may be the same place.
On a side note, in 1621 he was referred to as the “Weybel zu Signau.” I am curious what a Weybel or Weibel would have been responsible for.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
