The media is complicit in the downfall of democracy. News (yeah right) at 11.

Seriously though, the media has been a problem since billionaires with political beef bought up all the networks and push agendas vs actual news.

  2. FBstolemyshitposts on

Donald Trump is a fucking moron and his supporters see themselves in him. Enough said

  3. The media’s inaction to report on Trump’s mental decline is due to incompetence or negligence at best and is flagrantly dishonest at worst.

  4. armchairmegalomaniac on

Trump shows signs of age related cognitive decline on a daily basis. He displays erratic behavior on a daily basis. He stumbles incoherently over what should be simple explanations. No other Presidential candidate in history’s campaign would have survived so many demonstrations of being so obviously unfit for office. Biden’s campaign ended after a single poor debate. The media scream about minor shifts in Kamala Harris’ approach to this or that policy approach over the last decade. They wait like vultures for her to make a single mistake. Meanwhile, Trump shows us day after day after day that he is completely incoherent and frankly dangerous. The media should focus on nothing else but Trump’s unsuitability for high office.

  5. I’m happy to see two articles posted about his incoherence. It should be every news outlet, tv and print, reporting on his incoherence daily. As it’s literally every time he speaks. Good on Salon for this.

  6. So, I had a friend in middle school, KB, who had to give an oral book report on ‘Lord of the Rings’ but *very clearly* did not actually read the book and repeatedly referred to the protagonist as “Dildo Baggins” — yet somehow, his speech was still more cogent and persuasive than anything Trump has said since at least 2015.

There’s the problem, right in the title.

When you tell a parent:”all kids are a mess!” He’s going to nod and go along, even contribute to the conversation.
Another story when you tell that parent:”your kids are a mess!” Right there and then he’ll show you some mother bear treatment.

Saying that all media is bad, is the same generalized normalization.

Point to New York Times and show them how they narrated Biden’s decline in contrast to Trump’s!

Corporate media profits from a tight race and Trumpy ragebait.

Profit is all, journalism is irrelevant.

  9. Why would the mouthpiece of the Emperor tell you he has no clothes? I jest but seriously, this guy is free money, because we get rage baited into clicking on Trump this Trump that.

Show them he’s not a fool-proof formula and stop giving every headline with him in it free clickety clicks. The advertising ghouls love when we get pissed off and duped into doing things.

  10. Liesthroughisteeth on

Just as an exercise writers should quote him at length in their articles, just to see how difficult a task this is and to show just how disturbed he really is.

  11. EricThePerplexed on

Because of perverse incentives (horse-race, fear clicks, rage clicks, promises of tax cuts) billionaire owned commercial media loves Trump.

The commercial media will find a way to make this the fault of the Democrats. They will say something like:

“The Democrats may be competent and sane, and they have popular policy agendas, but these don’t resonate with millions of aggrieved weirdos who just want to burn it all down. Trump may be incoherent and dementia addled, but his vibe appeals to people like this gentleman who we interviewed at a garage where he dropped several thousand dollars to modify his new Ford f150 to ‘roll coal’.”

  12. It’s a pity the media is so incompetent. There are some very bright journalists. Maybe their pro Russia corporate overlords won’t let them shine.

  13. I have to admit, this election year has been very enlightening. Media bias is always talked about and is an issue to one degree or another, but this year has shown an astounding amount of general media bias and lack of standards and integrity. As this article (and some others coming out very recently) points out, its become impossible to shrug it off and say its coincidence or just a lack of direction among media outlets. Trump has been trotted around and played as normal for so long that digging our way out of the weird is going to be a long and possibly impossible task. And the more the media plays it as sane and normal, the more the public is affected by the unreality of it all.

And as much as I want to blame Trump, whom I do consider has ruined American politics for the foreseeable future, this is all on the news and related media outlets- that clown is just playing the song they want at this point, and their ad revenue is happy for it I’m sure.

  14. “Oh so someone comes up to me and says, sir, what do you think of the sun and I say, ‘The sun? It’s what they call a celestial body. That’s what they’re calling it. I don’t know why.’ It would be very dark without it. Cold too. Can you believe the weather up here, Michigan? Only September and I need a coat. Do you folks have coats? Look at that big strapping guy over there. No coat! He’s a tough one. You know Putin said that I’m the toughest leader he’s ever met. None of this with the Ukraine would be happening if I was still in office and it won’t be happening when I’m back.”]

“Folks, we just saw former president totally riffin’ as only he can. Next up, can President Joe Biden do calculus? Sources are saying no.”

  15. It appears to me (and I am often wrong about such things) that most fascists, and a hell of a lot of conservatives, know damn well that tRump’s dementia has become worse over the past nine years— and they just do not care. As long as the traitor harms The Usual Designated Targets, the MAGAts do not care if he also harms them.

  16. You mean to tell me his statements on affordable child care don’t make sense:

    >”Well, I would do that and we’re sitting down, you know, I was, somebody, we had Senator Marco Rubio and my daughter, Ivanka was sooo..uh..impactful on that issue. It’s very important issue… But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that, because, the child care is, child care is ..couldn’t, you know, there’s something you’d have to have it in this country, you have to have it. uh but when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that..they’re not used to but they’ll get used to it very quickly. And it’s not gonna stop them from doing business with us, but they’ll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our Country. Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers we’re talking about including child care…that it’s gonna take care. We’re gonna have. I look forward to having no deficits within a fairly short period of time. Coupled with the reductions that I told you about on waste and fraud and all the other things that are going on in our Country. Because I have to stay with child care..I wanna stay with child care but those numbers are small relative to the kind of economic numbers that I’m talking about INCLUDING growth..but growth also headed up by what the plan is that I just..uhh..that I just told you about, we’re gonna-bee takin in trillions of dollars. And as much as child care..uhh..is talked about as being expensive, it’s relatively speaking not very expensive compared to the kinda of numbers we’ll be taking in. We’re gonna make this into…..an incredible Country that can afford to take care of it’s people..and then we’ll worry about the rest of the World..let’s help other people. But we’re gonna take care of our Country first, this is about America first, is about Make..America..Great..Again..We have to do it because right now we’re a failing Nation..so we’ll take care of it. Thankyou.”

  17. Y’all … Monica Crowley, former asst sec to the treasury & Fox loser says this speech was “one of the most important speeches President Trump has ever given.”

Here are some tidbits of the replies on her X post …

Great speech! He’s a genius! Awesome speech! Important policy driven meeting. Outstanding speech! Actual policies! Great speech & policy!

  18. The media always “translates” what Trump says instead of just calling him incoherent, it’s ridiculous.

  19. Really? Because the media seems to be able to cover for Donny without breaking a sweat. It’s almost like they’re getting extra funding from a foreign enemy or something

  20. That truly mind-bending word salad he let loose yesterday is characterized by CNN with this misleading headline:

    # Trump claims boosting tariffs will pay for child care but doesn’t explain how

C’mon. That’s not really what he said at all.

  21. pinetreesgreen on

They published Clinton’s hacked emails, and not the ones from Trump’s hack recently. That’s all you need to know.

  22. >You’re going to have child care and China’s gonna pay for it.

I think that’s the gist of what that word salad was.

  23. youthfuloldster on

Every news outlet in America should show the video of his answer to a very specific question about childcare cost. This is a very important issue and serious expense to families and all should hear this person’s answer and see how satisfied they feel with it. Just run the footage and let it speak for itself. Do this for days.

  24. If literally anyone else had given such a rambling, nonsensical, incoherent response to that question, you’d think they may quite literally be insane…so why does Trump get a free pass?

  25. Existing-Nectarine80 on

Important to not that salon is in fact a member of the media, and by highlighting this they are largely nullifying their own argument.

  26. Raymond_Reddit_Ton on

The jig is up. This idiot’s inabilty to not slide into his same incoherent answer, no matter the question asked, is on full display now that bullying Kamala isn’t sticking.

  27. MyDarlingCaptHolt on

Donald Trump could do a full on rally with a soiled diaper on his head, shit dripping down on his face.

Steve Inskeep from NPR would ask in a calm and even tone, ” How might this play with swing voters in Ohio, Yamiche?” As if it’s just a basic Tuesday.

I had to stop listening to NPR in 2017 because of that bullshit.

Even NPR’s so-called journalists enabled the worst of Trump’s behavior.

  28. Worse, they take Trump’s incoherent rambling, and then actually play with and parse it to pull out a “policy” which doesn’t really exist, that they then “compare” to a Harris policy giving the false idea that Trump’s ramblings contained anything of substance.

The NYTimes is guilty of this on almost a daily basis.
