From the article:
The woman was attacked by a number of dogs which are currently in the custody of the dog warden, according to gardaí.
Although the breed of dogs involved are not currently known, it is the latest in a string of dog attacks, often involving restricted breeds.

People really need to understand that, even if high weight/bite strength dogs were only as aggressive as the average dog, a bite from them is going to mean so much more than a bite from a Jack Russell Terrier.
And very few are advocating cruelty towards any existing animal, just that they should cease to be bred, similar to pugs.

Ugh – another land shark no doubt. They need to go.

Recently got a puppy and I was shocked at the amount of people who leave there dogs off the leash in my local park

We are (as usual) looking for the wrong fix (banning certain breeds – which I’m not opposed to) whereas we should be really doing something about the chronic problem of people not walking their dogs on a lead.

Do we have any leads on who let these particular dogs out?

A lot of talk about the breed ban, yet nobody has questioned that to own a dog its the price of a dog and dog license. For every other type of license you have to attend training and pass a test to show you will be competent to own the license (i.e. vehicles, horses, farm animals). However a dog is what, €90?, (can’t remember the price off the top of my head for a dog license). I know loads of amazing dog owners, I also know a lot who are terrible. There should be a reform on owning a dog license and be made to go through a size category that you have to train and pass a test/inspection to show you can safely own, train and care for a dog of the category size. I’m a believer there’s no bad dogs, only bad owners. If they are properly trained and raised, they aren’t threats for the most part. An animal is an animal and you can’t fully trust it 100%, but the mentality around the dog license seems to be “buy it and then it’s your problem”. There’s a reason you can’t buy a car and just decide you can drive it without holding a license, and I feel in Ireland dog owners aren’t looked under the microscope of “you are in control of something that can kill people” like other aspect of society are.

The 6pm news said she was attacked ‘in an apartment’ so sounds like there is a chance these were her dogs, or else she was visiting someone

How about a law that requires all dogs regardless of breed to be muzzled in public. And if you’re caught not complying there is a heavy fine

Woman in Merrion square today with three dogs off the lead, one was a young Rottweiler. Idiot and children were in the park.
