I expect that this is priced on the basis of “Anyone who just needs a camera already has one in their phone. Anyone who needs a standalone camera, *right now*, will pay €23 for it.”

What is the point of these posts? Showing the price of a random object in a shop is low effort

For 27 exposures, that’s not bad. A roll of 120, with 20 shots, is over 20. Same with polaroid film.

That’s not too out of kilter, given inflation and the hilariously worse economies of scale that come from fuck all people buying them or buying colour film in general.

More so for Weddings to leave at tables, same price on amazon.

You could buy a cheap digital camera for the cost of that camera plus developing. It’d be a shite camera, sure, but likely no worse in terms of image quality than one of those disposables, and you could take as many pictures as you’d like until the thing quits working. Of course, if you’ve a smartphone made in the last several years then it has a better camera than either of those options already.

I looked them up on the boots website the reviews pretty much say half of the photos didn’t develop or not at all etc

I remember selling the Fujifilm ones when I worked in a photo lab back in the day. €5.99 and sometimes you’d get a free one when you handed it in to be developed depending on the stock levels
The thing on most of these was that you could actually reuse them with a roll of film if you were careful about opening them up to develop them. Most of the ones you got in the local Euro shops were already-used Fuji and Kodak ones with cheap film put back into them and and a shitty cardboard sleeve over the camera itself.
Sometimes you’d need to properly lever them open with a screwdriver to get at the roll of film to develop it. This usually exposed the capacitor that powered the flash from an AA battery. If you forgot to discharge it before opening the camera and you touched the wrong place, you’d get 300 volts up the arm. Fun times!

That’s what they are making nowadays, I remember when I was a kid we’d get them for free sometimes

Good. The less single use crap the better.

It’s because of weddings. And because of them, they can charge whatever they want, and people will pay for them. I bought a load on amazon for cheap but got RODE for the processing

A roll of 36 is 12-15euro, I think conns in Dublin sell Kodak disposable for 24 euros with 36 shots it’s a bit better quality in my opinion.

You know, maybe the fact that something that is single use and literally labelled as disposable being expensive is a good thing. If people are willing to be so wasteful then they should have to pay for it.
Though obviously it’d be much better if the people having to bare the brunt of the cost of crappy single use plastics and the like were the companies that have pushed us to use them.

Shop around.
Wait until you find out how much processing is!
