I think I remember reading before that IKEA prices are higher in Ireland because for the sake of their distribution ourselves and the U.K. are lumped together as one market.
We get lumped with extra charges due to Brexit import/export costs basically.

I have this couch, got it second hand very cheap. It’s grand but wouldn’t pay anywhere close to that much for it

Recently bought a new computer monitor, Figured amazon would be cheapest, and It is compared to any chain within Ireland, but I found ‘paradigit.ie’ that sells EU stock from the Netherlands with a free UK plug adapter and I saved 25% on the monitor I wanted. Also noticed that even the EU versions of amazon are cheaper than the UK. It pays to do some looking around of course with furniture most sites don’t share the same stock so Its more difficult to compare value. I don’t get Ikea its far too expensive for the quality. But most furniture companies really like the scalp people

Have you got in contact with IKEA and asked them about it?

I know nothing about Ikea’s price plans, but my default assumption is that we are being ripped off, so I’m going to say yes

Yeah, pretty much! But what can you do about it? 🤷🏻♂️ it’s the same for nearly every other multinational company that sells products here.

There is a reason that ikea Ireland is the most profitable store in the whole group . !!!

I had that couch. It was shite. Do not get it. If you try lie across it, you can feel the wooden frame under the pillow. The chipboard back, shite, the pullout, shite, the plastic washer on the hinges, shite, the clips holding the springs under the couch, shite. Apart from all those things though, still shite

To those trying to explain this away with shipping costs … it’s IKEA. It’s flat-packed, it kinda their thing. So yeah, we’re being ripped off.
We paid €400 for ours 3 years ago. Now you can get on sale, reduced from €769 to €699!! In Ireland. Worth €400? Just about I’d say, but not worth much more.
One of my friend bought a house, they bought eveey single thing from bother ireland and apparently furnished it under 25k very well done with lot of interesting designs

It’s the same for Jet2 holidays out of belfast vs Jet2 holidays out of Manchester or Birmingham. Twice the price per person out of Belfast for the exact same holiday.

I have been to ikea store this weekend(for the first time). I heard and watched(youtube) about ikea a lot that you can find cool stuff at cheap/reasonable price. I ended up buying lots of small things like towel, brush and other bathroom/kitchen stuff. However, when I visited dealz yesterday I saw the same things for cheaper(maybe quality differs, but in one glance doesnt feel so). So, I thought ikea is good for furniture and maybe not for other things

Just to note I was in Ikea in Spain and the Spanish version is exactly the same as the version in Ikea in Dublin.
Two different countries with completely different markets
Shop around. Genuinely great value out there.
Germany has an IKEA distribution centre I believe so any mainland European Ikea’s are going to be cheaper than Ireland because of that alone.
We live on a small island nation on the edge of Europe. Of course it’s more expensive to get shit like here compared to the middle of Germany.
Mad money for a not so great couch. They were about €400 a few years ago
If you think that’s bad check this website before buying anything big off Amazon

Our IKEA store is literally the largest selling store in the world. https://www.businesspost.ie/news/ikeas-ballymun-store-is-best-performing-in-world-by-revenue/
They’ll definitely charge what people are willing to pay here, on top of the other usual reasons why stuff is usually expensive in Ireland.
