  1. Only among Republicans could Trump be a strongman. Because as Kinzinger says, they’re cowards.

  2. Well put. We’ve watched this vicious cycle of cowardice and fear unfold for 8 years.

Anyone who does speak out gets exiled from the party. Out of the 10 Republicans in the House who voted to impeach Trump just a few years ago, only two are left. And [Trump is trying everything in power to make them lose.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/04/17/trump-dan-newhouse-republican-challenger/)

The wikipedia pages on [“Republicans who oppose a Trump Presidency”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Republicans_who_opposed_the_Donald_Trump_2016_presidential_campaign) are like 15 pages long.

I can’t believe this party is still viable; it’s insane how powerful demagoguery and fear can be.

One of the last respectable Republicans. To think that the party didn’t used to be this bad

  4. Maybe Harris should announce putting Kinzinger and Cheney in her cabinet. Just because it would be fun to see Trumps head explode, and that would do it.

  5. As Mark Twain said, “It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world, and moral courage so rare.” I am, however, encouraged that some Republicans are openly voicing their support for Harris/Walz. It may be just a trickle but it still matters. Our tent is big and always unzipped.

  6. He was a voice of reason in a party that has long since been buried by MAGA insanity. Too bad more aren’t like him

At least this fosters hope that not all conservatives are lost to the cult of personality. Unfortunately, as Kinzinger put it, they’re all spineless fucking cowards who’d rather let the country burn than risk their position. Just your stereotypical politicians that didn’t get into it to help people, but rather to help themselves.

Every Republican will be saying something very similar to this very soon. never met Trump. They don’t know who Trump is. Have never spoken with the man. don’t agree with Trump. It will be endless

Republicans as a group are greedy opportunist frauds put there to help rich corporate special interest. If they didn’t have a right wing propaganda machine like Fox News and army’s of lost, angry, badly educated voters their fraud party of shit would be nowhere .

  10. There’s a Magic: The Gathering card with an apt quote here: When you’re a goblin, you don’t have to step forward to be a hero- everyone else just has to step back.

  11. Maga – big, strong, alpha men… Scared of a 78 year old man child who bicep curls big macs.

    But yeah…libs are the snowflakes

And he’s kind of right, but courageous to say it.

Think of how much of a sell-out you have to be to sell out to Trump. To exchange loyalty for a free ride. To offer all your successes to him while accepting responsibility for any of his failures. And for what? What do you get for committing to tell the world that reality is fake but Trump’s fantasies are real?

  13. That’s courage, dude.

Just like people who say “Oh I’m not organized, if I didn’t create all these organizational mechanisms for myself I’d be all over the place” It’s like, congrats friend that’s what organized is.

He is right. Only a few Republicans stood up to save Democracy. The rest were preoccupied with Trump boot licking.

  15. Where do the Republician party go from trump ?
Watching from afar in ireland. We have a very different electoral system here with 3 big party’s ( two centre right parties who have governed pretty much for 80 years. Slightly different bases but in general similar ideals) and a left leaning emerging sinn fein. Completely different dynamic here. And lots of independent voices in our equivalent of Congress.

The two party system in states has always intrigued me and have a long interest in it.

I don’t think I have ever seen things so polarised though. It’s either trump or never trump.hes had a devastating impact on american politics. Has normalised behaviour on a daily basis that would have ended political careers in moments in the past.

Bi partisan policy seems to be a thing of the past. There is no longer an effective government to pass laws. All because the Republicians have bought into the cult. And 30% of electorate have done the same.

What is the way back from this to normal give and take governing for America?

Does MAGA die with a trump loss or will they continue the journey into waaaay waaay right ideals

Damn near 40 years for me. I call it “Mission to Submission” make us love debt and god.

Vote blue up and down the ballot if you want healthcare, SSI, freedom to read anything, (especially Project 2025 literature.)

  17. Don’t put a halo on this guy. He’s totally in lockstep with a Trump policy-wise. He just doesn’t like Trump’s personal style because it hurts the GOP brand.

Here’s a thought exercise: How are Gorsuch and Kavanaugh any different than who a president Kinzinger would have put on the Supreme Court?

  18. I don’t know if they are cowards or simply amoral and selfish, either way they are morally unfit for public trust or service.

  19. BecauseBassoon on

That is on point! He really did what any member of congress would have done just a couple decades ago.

Adam is a good republican.  He has a moral center.   Currently republican party is no more it has all been taken over by Maga, Turncoat, nazi loving  assholes.  That want nothing but to cause the downfall  of democracy and suck trumps dick all day. So as a freedom loving American  I will vote Democrat until every last bit of these assholes are out of office.  Old republican party doesn’t Currently exist and it makes me sad.

  21. I mean, he has at least a little bit of courage.

It’s not easy to speak to a gigantic audience at the DNC that was televised.

Don’t like some of his policies, though. But we can talk it out with him, and that’s the big difference between Kinzinger and modern MAGA Republicans.

  22. The emperor has no clothes. I think about this story at least once a day now. I will never get over my disappointment in the many journalists who don’t deserve the title or respect it comes with. Who were too craven or just cowardly, to state obvious truths. To simply state the truth when it was most crucial.

I never had any faith in the GOP or it’s voters, but somehow my opinion of them is lower as well. I’ll never see them the same again. Rotten people with a polite mask.
