Fugitive former Philippine mayor detained in Indonesia Philippine authorities say a former mayor from the country who has been on the run has been detained in Indonesia.

Alice Guo, who was mayor of Bamban town on Luzon Island, is suspected of involvement in running an illegal online casino catering to Chinese clients.

The Philippines’ immigration bureau said she was detained early on Wednesday outside the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.

Philippine investigative authorities say their March raid on the casino they believe Guo was involved in operating uncovered suspected human trafficking and investment scams.

They say Guo is also suspected of being a Chinese national but disguising herself as a Philippine citizen.

Replying to a congressional investigation, the former mayor claimed to be a natural-born Philippine citizen. She went missing during the probe.

Philippine authorities have been pursuing her on suspicion that she had illegally left the country.

The authorities plan to investigate the cases against Guo after Indonesia deports her and she is returned to the Philippines.
