This is a couple/familly tax discount but implemented the wrong way.

Seems to be a thing with this lot, leak out plans a couple of days before – get the proles used to it. Then the Kier comes out to make an announcement to patronise the proles into paying more. Proles complain?? Blame it on the Tories.

If they scrap this then they need to scrap married couples allowance, child benefit, I can’t help being single. I don’t want them to scrap any of it (before I get downvoted) it’s already hard for some people to live. I knew I didn’t trust Starmer, now I know why (not that the last lot were any different mind you).

Turns out starmer’s “difficult decisions” are really just him finding new ways to hurt lower class people while letting the rich off the hook.

This will affect so many people, around 1 in three households are single occupancy. And then there’s the other households where people are living with exempt groups, students, children etc. You could be looking at half of all households facing up to 30% council tax increases.
That seems quite an important thing to maybe mention during a six week election campaign.
>>The number of people living alone in the UK in 2022 was 8.3 million, this represents 13% of the household population and 30% of all households; the majority (53%) of these households were women living alone.
I already have to deal with enough being lonely and judged simply for being single . Now I’m gonna get further taxed for it . GG , the single tax is real

I realise that we are approaching a population crisis what with people not wanting to have children (and who can blame them with the cost of living, the climate crisis, etc) but making it MORE difficult for people to survive in a single occupation household is extremely dangerous.
We already have low conviction rates for rape, domestic abuse, and low availability for single persons housing (especially when it comes to priority), etc, and due to the cost of living we have a situation where couples who want to divorce simply cannot afford to so they are trapped (this can also apply to house sharers). Increasing the need for co-dependants will also increase the potential for abuse to occur as people will be willing or forced to accept higher levels of harm due to their inability to survive on their own.

I couldn’t afford to pay my council tax if I didn’t have the single person discount. I’m not sure what they think the lowest earners will do?

Are we sure these aren’t the same party under different names?

What happened to no tax increase on working people? This is the worst kind of tax increase because it mostly affects the poor…
