Bahçeli’s statement on lieutenant and street interview

Speaking to Tüylü Mikrofon in İzmir, Kayserilioğlu said, when asked about the blocking of access to Instagram, “If we were to abandon the parliamentary system in the middle of the 21st century and give the entire Republic of Turkey to a single man, he would use it like his father’s farm, like his barn. He openly publishes Friday messages on his own Instagram. And there are even those who support this: ‘Of course he will use it, of course he will open it.’ What I said could be misunderstood and could go somewhere else. I don’t care at all.”

Kayserilioğlu also reacted to the declaration of national mourning following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and criticized those who supported the government.

Of the 960 lieutenant graduates who took the oath during the official part of the Military Academy graduation ceremony, 300-400 came together with their swords after the ceremony and chanted the slogan “We are Mustafa Kemal’s soldiers!” accompanied by the first classman who had already made them take the oath an hour earlier, and then took the oath. This oath is called the Officer’s Oath. This oath used to be taken during the official part of the ceremony. A quick search on the internet for “Harp Academy graduation ceremony” will show that this “Officer’s Oath” has disappeared since 2016. The phrases in the Officer’s Oath such as “secular, democratic Republic” and “they will find us before them” and “our swords will be sharp and ready” must have been disturbing for some. In other words, the lieutenants showed a determination to take this oath, which has historically been traditional but has become “banned” in recent years.
