I couldn’t agree more. For me, he embodies Ireland. He is fluent in the language and there’s nothing about the arts, history and mythology he doesn’t know about.
I wish him the very best of health 💪💪💪

He could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and he wouldn’t lose any voters.

After living in the UK and seeing how weird they are about class and the monarchy, even the idea of a king in Ireland rises my republican heckles.

Personally can’t wait for him to be gone. He’s as a fake as a 3 euro note. A right little €unt when he gets going

Silly idea. This is the political opinion of a 13 year old. The man has a lot of blind spots, though I have no doubt he’s a good man.
“Statement by President Michael D. Higgins on the death of Fidel Castro

I have learned with great *sadness* of the death of Fidel Castro, founder of modern Cuba, and its Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976, as well as its President from 1976 to 2008.”
“Fidel Castro will be remembered as a giant among global leaders whose view was not only one of freedom for his people but for all of the oppressed and excluded peoples on the planet.”

I voted for him twice and If I could vote him in a third time I would. Served the people with the dignity and passion you’d hope every president would. Never using the position to feed his own ego.
