Places in Estonia that are the furthest … from everything.

A few weeks ago a question was asked right here about which is the most inaccessible place in Estonia. It seemed like a simple calculation – let’s just take a place that is as far as possible from all sides. In other words, you can’t get to where you shouldn’t go by road, by boat, or just by driving and walking through the open. Then I set the machine to calculate and forgot. Now I remembered.

The basic data is Vector data of the main map of the Land AdministrationPostGIS for processing, QGIS for visualization. I divided the surface of Estonia into hexagons with a side of 100m and calculated the distance to the nearest building, road (including railway), watercourse, lake and so on for each such shape.

The visual of the calculated distances looks like it appears on the map. Blue areas are relatively easy to access, green means half a kilometer of climbing through the bush.

So that it doesn’t turn into a picture puzzle, the best places are listed as well. The most distant is a beautiful place like Avaste Swamp on the border of Rapla and Pärnu counties. Suursoo and Kuresoo of Läänemaa will follow. The following are the 10 most isolated places with coordinates (there was a table, but for some reason the formatting got messed up).
