European citizens’ initiative My Voice My Choice: for safe and accessible abortion – materials

We have discussed this initiative many timesall information can be found on these three links, but here are the basics:

• What is ECI? The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) is a mechanism that enables EU citizens to participate directly in the development of EU policies by proposing laws on specific issues.
• How does it work? In order for the European Commission to consider it, the initiative must collect at least one million valid signatures of EU citizens, with minimum thresholds reached in at least seven different member states. In this case, the second condition is already met.
• Who can sign? Any EU citizen old enough to vote in the elections for the European Parliament (usually 18 years old, 16 in Austria, Belgium, Germany and Malta) can participate.
• How much time do we have? We have 12 months to collect the necessary signatures.
• What happens to my data? Signatures are collected on the platform of the European Commission, which is harmonized with the GDPR regulation, and your data will be used only for the purpose of putting the issue of abortion availability on the agenda of EU legislation.
• What do we want? We want the EU to expand access to abortion services and cover the associated costs, as it has already done for other medical procedures.
