The ugly truth is that democracy only works so long as there is a tacit agreement by all parties to make it work. When half the population gives up on it and decides that they want to subvert it, there aren’t any guardrails strong enough to keep it alive. For the life of me, I cannot understand why MAGA want to destroy democracy, but they do. This is an election about whether we will live in a free America or an authoritarian, fascist America. These are the stakes. Anyone upset about this policy or that policy not being addressed by Democrats has to get over it quickly and understand that this election is about a far bigger threat.

It’s not as much a concern, as it is a reality. The R’s know they can’t win playing fair with Trump as a candidate, so they’re going to do anything and everything to throw a wrench in the works. They tried it before and they’re damn sure going attempt it again. About the only thing that will thwart them is a resounding landslide for Harris/Walz. We can only hope that enough level headed citizens will see this election for what it really is, (democracy vs. fascism) and vote accordingly.

Not to minimize the issue, but:
1. The fact that Republicans have these shenanigans planned indicates that they themselves think losing the election is a strong possibility;
2. The Republicans controlled far more of the electoral infrastructure (and relevant federal government agencies) in 2020 than they do this time around, and
3. The Democrats seem focused and aware what’s going on this time.
I think we’re in a better position that were were in 2020 in this regard.

I think the big mistake was letting Trump walk around free after his cue attempt. He should have been locked up immediately while awaiting trial with no bail. Peferably in a maximum security prison. This also would have helped lessen some of the delay tactics since it just would have prolonged his time there.
Instead, he is not only walking around a free man but actually running for the office he tried to steal. It creates the sense that there is no accountability, which just makes them want to try again next time.

Judges did not show a lot of patience for the antics last time, and a lot of lawyers who took on these dubious cases have damaged careers. While there is a danger, I think many of these stories are effectively clickbait.

I find the GA case to be the most concerning. Their goal is not to prove he won or to ensure an accurate result. Their goal is to delay past the certification deadline, which could throw the election to the Republican controlled state legislatures, making who won irrelevant.
A victory in GA (by either candidate) will likely be razor thin. The best case scenario will be if Harris can get to 270 *without* GA.

The quotes in the article don’t really support a growing concern as much as a knowledge that Trump will certainly try legal bullshittery if he loses politically:

Everything you can to cast doubt on the legitimacy so that when the dust settles, your candidate has either stolen power or it’s so hard to tell that the decision goes to the Supreme Court and we know exactly whose way they will lean.
