Suzuki wins Japan's first gold medal at Paris Paralympics Japan’s legendary para swimmer Suzuki Takayuki has won a gold medal in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke SB3 class at the Paris Paralympics. The win brought Japan its first medal at the ongoing Games.

Thirty-seven-year-old Suzuki racked up 10 medals in the previous 5 Paralympics.

In Thursday’s event final, Suzuki got off to a superb start and led the pack from the beginning. He widened his lead later in the race and finished first by clocking a time of 48.04 seconds.

This is his third Paralympic gold medal. He also won a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.

Italy’s Efrem Morelli won the silver medal, and Miguel Luque of Spain took the bronze.

Suzuki is going to compete in three free-style events, and he is expected to win more medals.
