I look forward to the history books referring to DJT as “One-term, twice impeached, convicted felon that served X years…”

This is the case that keeps Trump up at night. Make no mistake, he is scared shitless of Jack Smith. Trump knows what he’s done. This isn’t the usual National Enquirer garbage. He screwed up in a major, life ending way. Espionage. When this case is finally heard, it will be the thing that finally ends Trump.

I don’t know what Jack Smith is working on. Honestly, I don’t wanna know. But it’s got Trump So scared shit he can’t even talk straight anymore. And I love it! (yeah I know he never could) Trump is getting convicted and he knows it.

The new indictment is very clear that none of what he did dealt with official acts.
this is clearly campaigning and issues with election certification.
Election certification has no official role for the president.
The fake electors scheme was all done with private lawyers.
the rally was paid for by his political action committee.
All they did was remove the shit stain that was running the DOJ because those conversations could be seen as official acts even though they clearly weren’t.
Of course the Supreme Court could say electioneering is now a presidential function.
But in a sane world, this is the best you could hope for with the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

As these endless back and forth filings, appeals and incomprehensible legal shenanigans go on and on I am reminded that only rich people get to play this game.

If this is Chutkan, smart move indeed. She will make fair and tough rulings and is exactly the judge bad guys fear.

The Republican Party has nominated a criminal. Think about that for a second.

Also curious about the role Smith will play as a historical/public figure for the remainder of his life after this. He doesn’t remotely strike me as the sort who would try to cash in with a memoir 18 months later, but I’m not sure he’ll pull a Mueller and step back into the hedge like Homer.gif and never be discussed again.

There is no immunity… he committed all the crimes in his run to become president, not as president (well he committed crimes then too…). There’s literally nothing to address.

Judge Chutkin should just Aileen Cannon the case and just do what she wants and deal
With the repercussions later

So if I am indicted I can just seek dismissal?

They can’t keep letting Trump yell ‘immunity’ after every motion or decision, no matter how small, causing delays forever.

The sitting president has no role in the election or counting votes. What possible official act could Trump claim gives him immunity?

Trump should be in prison and the people still supporting him are either utter fools or outright traitors to the United States.

>Trump’s lawyers asked Chutkan to first consider whether Smith’s appointment as special counsel and funding are constitutional — the issue that led a Florida judge to dismiss the former president’s classified documents case last month — before considering whether to dismiss the indictment based on presidential immunity.
I don’t think it’s done with malice but it’s a little frustrating because that judge and what she did for him is a VERY important detail in why that case was dismissed.
so just calling her “A Florida judge” without any context irks me and it makes it sound like what she did was done with the law in mind even though it’s being looked at currently and COULD – but probably won’t – lead to her being removed from the case.

If Harris is elected, all of this noise goes away… or at the very least, gets buried in a stack of other shit that doesn’t matter anymore because the world has moved on.
Let’s move on, folks.

They should have a week where ALL of this is addressed and stop prolonging it.
One week to address all legal issues before trial and then the week after, jury selection.
