Do you support efforts to make Turkish one of the official languages ​​of the EU?

In 2016, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, requested the European Commission to accept Turkish as one of the official languages ​​of the EU.

A similar request was made in 2019. Although the general public opinion was positive, the EU Parliament rejected both requests as required by the statute and stated that the official languages ​​are decided by the Council of EU Heads of State and Government.

While Turkish, along with Luxembourgish, is the only language not represented in EU institutions despite being an official language of a European Union member state, the Republic of Cyprus continues to put pressure on the EU administration. Turkey, on the other hand, has no position on this issue.

Note: Turkish is currently recognized as a minority language in Greece and Romania. This issue touches on the issue of it being an official working language of the EU. According to the report, there are enough Turkish translators in the EU institutions, but if the proposal is accepted, all EU documents will still need to be translated – the total cost of this is estimated to be 37 million euros.
