  1. Dubai is a second Baku, lol.

It’s extremely sad for us to be compared to a city of meaningless skyscrapers, without any historical background or identity. Baku has her own identity; Dubai doesn’t.

  2. Turning Baku into Dubai with ugly skyscrapers and architecture is one of the biggest crimes against our cultural heritage.

As someone who is not from both these cities/countries, I can easily say Baku is much more fun than Dubai. Dubai and Doha and Riyadh are artificial cities exhibiting very little culture and history of the land and the region. They are obsessed with creating and building huge ugly skyscrapers making it an urban hellscape. Sure, it feels good for a day or two, but after that it is just horrible and boring and bland.

Baku was very different. Yes, it is very modern, but it also has so much of its historical past to show and it does its culture very well. Really loved Baku when I visited and it is the kind of city you actually want to be in and explore more and more. I will never choose an artificially created urban concrete monster over a city that has its cracks and burns from its history and its culture and is not afraid to show them.

Baku > Dubai as a tourist destination every day of the week.

  4. Dubai is a synthectic, soulless city completely devoid of cultural heritage. Bunch of skyscrapers erected in the middle of the desert, petrol money nothing else. Fake grandeur. Baku is a beautiful place full of life, history, culture

  5. Dubai deyince aklıma köleler tarafından kurulmuş bomboş bir şehir geliyor karşılaştırılması üzücü

I’d say baku is more zesty cus it actually emphazises on historical architecture as well.

It’s a nightmare to be compared with Dubai, Dubai is useless artifical islands, skyscrapers and other Shit for the richest of the rich. Baku has some skyscrapers and the rest is beautiful traditional mosques, museums, temples, monuments etc.

I’m actually interested in visiting Baku in the near future. May God protect Azerbaijan 🇧🇦❤️🇦🇿

  9. I visited both Baku and Dubai in the last 6 months. Enjoyed Baku a lot more. It has more history and character. It’s also extremely pedestrian friendly and has a better climate. Dubai though is a better place to be from a career and business perspective.

Baku at least has a functioning sewer system. And it’s not in an inhabitable hellscape geographically.

  11. For your information, the concept of “modern slavery” persists in Dubai. I don’t want our city to be built just for show
If you look at the outskirts of the city, there is still ugly Soviet architecture there, which for some reason content makers don’t talk about

As an American who absolutely loved Baku (and the other areas of Azerbaijan that I visited last year), I could see how insulting this could be. While I have never been to Dubai (and I have no desire to ever go), the culture, history, and people of Azerbaijan feel unmatched to me. Coming from Iowa, where we are known for our kindness, I was blown away by the people of Azerbaijan. I do agree with what they said about Baku being beautiful, historical, clean, and affordable. The historical and cultural aspects can’t be matched though. And the food is insanely good. I cannot wait to come back (hopefully next year). Azerbaijan will forever have a piece of my heart.

  13. It’s just so sad seeing how Baku is actively turning into a car centric city. With all this advertisements comparing us to Dubai it will just keep on pushing more pollution and grayness in the city with dystopian looking tall skyscrapers. We have such better potential than Dubai and look how we are squandering it away 😔

  14. Why would a city want to be like Dubai??

Spending insane amounts of money to make a city from nothing that has no authentic, unique culture of its own. Only for rich people. Gaudy and tacky. I’d much rather have a real city with actual history and culture of its own.

  15. There is free trade and law in Dubai. Someone can come and go with money as he pleases.

All trade in Azerbaijan belongs to 2 families. money flees to Dubai 🦹🏻

It’s been 4 years and it’s been forbidden to enter and exit the country by land. What are you talking about? Are you kidding?

  16. To make Baku something close like Dubai in the first you need to take care of your citizens, like in Dubai at least….
And for max diversify the economy, make property rights and other basic human rights untouchable, and only then you can compare yourself with someone, and not try to copy someone like a monkey

Meymunluğnan iş olsaydı nə gözəl dünyə olardı)) sən Dubay olmaq istəyəndə ilk dubay kimi öz millətini, vətəndaşını bəslə, hər doğulan vətəndaşına Dubay kimi hesabına küllü miqdarda vəsait blok et gələcəyi ücün, onun haqqlarını ən azı şəriətdə olan kimi goru özündə o şəriəti aşma, ondan sonra özünə Dubay papağını cəkməyə bir hakkın olar, ay padışah ))) Dubay Dubay olub vətəndaşına görə neftinə görə değil, şeyxin nəslinə görə deyil şəriətdə olan haqqı yemədiyinə görə bu gün Dubayıdı

Nah, I completely disagree. I’ve been to both places, but I sense this peace and warmth in Baku that was a stark comparison to living in the fast paced life in Dubai. Both cities are beautiful, but honestly, Baku’s heritage and atmosphere was serene and historical, whereas Dubai is more focused on urbanisation and development, among other things. Beautiful beaches, architecture, nature, malls and people are present in both cities. Baku is, no doubt, unforgettable. As is Dubai, but each in their own way.
