This isn’t a poll, this is actual data on new voter registrations. It turns out that after Biden dropped out of the race and Harris became the nominee, there was a surge in new voter registrations in normally pro-Democratic demographic groups (younger voters, Hispanic and black voters, and especially young black women and young Hispanic women). Basically, new voters are excited about Harris in a way that they definitely weren’t about Biden. And yes, Trump should be scared.
memomem on
that’s awesome, any time citizens become more active understanding and exercising their rights, that’s great.
i’ll make sure to do my part and vote. if you haven’t registered yet, it’s a good time to do it, registration deadlines are coming up. checking if your registration is up to date, is probably also a good idea.
I know as Democrats we’re constant doomers….especially because of 2016. But when you see this data, the fact that Democrats have a far more sophisticated get out the vote infrastructure, and the fact that Trump is campaigning like he’s retired.
It’s hard not to feel good about our chances.

We still need to get people to register to vote and then to actually vote in the election. Its time to make orange juice.

The key thing here is that it’s massive growth in new voters over 2020. The 2020 election already had participation at a level not seen in decades.

Seeing that the surge in registration outpaces 2020, when it felt like there was a huge cultural movement to register and vote out Trump is extremely heartening. It’s not over until cheetoh man tries to overthrow democracy again, but it’s good news regardless. Vigilance is still just as important

I’m getting annoyed with all these ‘SHOCKING! Thing is still thing!’ stories running around.
Like, did they do a surprise poll? Was the data itself shocked? Did they only count people who were jump scared? No?
Then it wasn’t surprise data. The RESULTS may have been a bit unexpected, but not the data.
Well of course they are, Trump’s whinny, vengeful, hate circus is getting really old, just like him.
For the last several elections we have been voting against something, it’s nice to have something to vote for.
Does America really want to go back to the corrupt, bitchy Trump administration? Do we really want to start this crap all over again?

Can somebody clarify what the data means. There are two interpretations of “10% increase in registration week of july 21 2020 vs. 2024”
1. It could mean that 100 people registered **during** that week in 2020 and now 110 people registered.
2. It could mean that 1000 people registered **by that week** in 2020 and by this point 1100 people have registered.
If it’s the former, then it’s not as strong of a datapoint for Dems. But if it’s the latter that would be huge.

I can’t imagine why.

Is there any reason to think that these new voters are not showing up in polls? Either because they don’t pass likely voter screens (generally screen for things like: if you voted before) or if they are just not answering polls.
I’m not saying the polls are wrong, only asking how they account for these things.

So obviously here’s the usual: Polls can help adjust strategy and see the trends… But you must always Vote, Actively Campaign (donate, canvass, phone-bank, etc.), and combat trolls on social media and have those hard talks with friends & family.
Polling volatility rises greatly when there are people who normally don’t vote come out to register and vote. Polling volatility is thus off the scales, which means we could, as this analyst notes, be heading for another 2020/2022 surge in Democratic voters… Which wouldn’t reflect in current polling aggregators (that already are looking good, trend-wise).
