Bet there’s no limit on in-flight drinks !
Should probably ban alcohol on flights too then.
And scratchcards too while they’re at it.
Mick just wants people to buy more of his rip off tiny cans…..
> But we don’t allow people to drink-drive, yet we keep putting them up in aircraft at 33,000 feet
We allow drunk passengers in cars. We don’t allow drunk pilots. Stop talking shite MOL.
I’m as fond of the airport pint before heading off on your holliers as anyone, I can’t understand the attraction to getting bladdered and constantly needing a piss for the duration of the flight though.
What do ya mean I can’t swing on a lad in WHSmiths!? I’m on my holidays!
If he also owned the bar he wouldn’t be saying that.
Classic O’Leary. Here we need some free advertising what will those dumb Journos swallow this time… not pints if I get my way.
You know what would actually improve things? Allow people to use a little weed before their flights. Maybe some edibles. All regulated and taxed. Imagine people chilling, watching a little in-flight entertainment, eating some food and generally not embarrassing themselves and not running the flight for everyone else?
As an airline pilot myself, major airlines and EASA have been calling for these measures for a long time, and they are overdue.
I don’t think it is a uniquely Irish problem, unruly passenger issues occur everywhere, but it is definitely an increasingly prevalent and violent problem on flights to/from Ireland & UK relative to anywhere else. We are amongst the worst offenders, maybe because alcohol forms such a part of the social scene.
The main issue is that while it is a minority of passengers, the incident rate has multiplied three times and those actions have a disproportionate effect at 38,000ft when they are irritating other passengers, abusive or physically violent to passengers/crew and we cannot do anything about them. It’s a serious problem if there is a group or an emergency situation where they become a liability for the safety of crew and passengers. It can go as far that cancellations and diversions can happen, which affects other passengers, airports, traffic. That can cost thousands upon thousands. If a drunk group is onboard, sometimes we have to withdraw alcoholic trolley service.
I have only had to divert twice in my career, thankfully French police take no nonsense. No fly lists for the scummers sounds ideal.
A visionary. And furthermore, no doubt, he’ll raise the price of alcohol on Ryanair flights to “curb drinking”.
Is there a limit for buying drinks in-flight from Ryanair? How about looking at that first.
I can’t help but agree with him, it shouldn’t be something that needs enforcing but people are cunts.
100% agree , they should also stop selling alcohol on flights to
Attention wh0re looking for free advertising again
I agree with him.
How about passengers with a whiff of alcohol or boisterousness should have to blow not-intoxicated on a breath alcohol meter before boarding? Surely Ryanair can implement that by itself.
I like a lock of pints but cannot abide them in the airport. Having to get up to piss, the grogginess setting in on arrival, no thanks.
I’d say a contributing factor is social media and passengers posting videos of how fun their plane is. A bit like english football fans outdoing each other by throwing more pints in the air when a goal is scored than in the last match. I’ve seen loads of videos of people boasting about their planes on Instagram
Id say lads lashing duty free whiskey down their neck is probably a big culprit aswell
Sensible idea
I was on a Ryanair flight from Stockholm to Gdansk last weekend, and there was hen party on board. Absolute shrieking gorgon harpies who were pissed when they boarded, and then of course cabin crew only too pleased to keep selling them drink. So O’Leary really needs to examine Ryanair’s own encouraging of drinks for profit before he gets on to people having a couple of pints in the lounge.
Until you get on the plane then its all the €10 tiny cans of budget lager your money can buy!
