Do you believe the Azov brigade has significant links to the Azov batallion?

For context, it seems there has been a Russian disinformation campaign to conflate these two groups (one of which has some Nazi ties) in an effort to undermine Western support for Ukraine:

The US State Department said Tuesday that Russian disinformation “has actively worked to discredit” the unit. “They have long tried to conflate Ukraine’s National Guard Unit of 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov with a militia formed to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion in 2014, called the “Azov Battalion,” a State Department spokesperson said. “That militia disbanded in 2015 and the Special Forces Brigade Azov is unrelated to that militia.”

However, some people still seem to believe that these groups are indeed related. Notably, the Wikipedia article on the "Azov Brigade" also suggests this connection (though this isn't definitive, considering that Russian operatives can edit Wikipedia like anyone else).

So, does anyone have more information on this? I believe this is quite important — not only because much of the reluctance to send military aid to Ukraine is based on the possibly false perception that "some of it ends up with Nazis," but also because it would illustrate just how effective Russian disinformation can be, including its influence on sources like Wikipedia.
