  1. I think Stalin would make a semi decent football pundit. Wouldn’t get bogged down in stats.

  2. _The former footballer, who once played 13 minutes for England_. Ouch!

Sounds like a absolutely ridiculous thing to bring to trial, though.

I hope there’s more to it than what was in that report. Because:

    a) Dishing out obviously hyperbolic insults should not be a criminal offence.

    b) I loathe that obnoxious cum rag, and would love to see him get some well deserved punishment.

Is comparing someone to Stalin a crime? Surely that’s just a subjective opinion?

  5. I’m beginning to form the opinion that this Joey Barton fellow is not a very nice chap.

  6. This is inches away from criminalizing public criticism of politicians. And the resulting end of democracy in the UK.

I’d rather not give the shit rag any clicks.

In what sense was he comparing Eni to Stalin?

And how did any comparison rise to the threshold of criminal charges (I’m not saying it shouldn’t as I haven’t seen the comments, just asking how)?

I hope he gets acquitted even though he’s a bellend. Malicious comms offenses have been on a scope creep for the last 10 years and need looking at, the police and courts system is struggling to deal with rape and serious violent crime and far too much time is spent on this sort of thing.

  9. Surely there has to be more than this? Or are Aluko’s lawyers taking her for a ride?

  10. This is ridiculous

We are struggling to convict murderers and rapists due to a lack of court time, and we have huge issues with immigration appeals for the same issues, yet we have time to try someone for saying something slightly mean?

These constant erosions of free speech are starting to get worrying as well.

I’ll add this to my ‘clear violations of British freedom of speech’ list.. It’s a pretty long list.

This is what you get when the criteria for criminal punishment is ‘it’s offensive’.

If Stalin were still alive, I’m sure he’d be taking Barton to court as well for such an insult!

Oh my god – you guys are so fucked. We will be as well when Bill C-68 comes to Canada as who will define online hate speech, the politicians?

If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.

  15. Crown court? For silly comments made on social media? Jesus wept this country is turning into North Korea

Yet another sad occurrence of men getting more publicity than the women footballers they are attacking… see also Luis Rubiales.

(How many minutes did Aluko play for England btw…? More than 100 caps!)

  17. big uncle joe smiling *enviously and approvingly* at the scope and reach of the malicious communications act 1988

  18. The police have something like a 7% solution rate for crimes and it sometimes seems like most of them are people who made mean tweets.

  19. I mean Stalin is a bit far, she was openly racist on podcast, I don’t even think she realised what she was saying, honestly not the brightest spark.
