Emergency warnings possible for Typhoon Shanshan in Kyushu Japanese weather officials say they could issue storm, high wave, and storm surge emergency warnings for the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima around Wednesday noon due to Typhoon Shanshan.

Officials of the Meteorological Agency and the land ministry said at a joint news conference that they could also issue a heavy rain emergency warning for the southern Kyushu region.

The officials warned of swelling and overflowing rivers, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas. They called on people to exercise maximum caution.
