    >Philippines Rejects U.S. in South Chine Sea

The article really doesn’t say anything of the sort? Why use a made up headline?

  2. They said they’d try to deal with it themselves before resorting to help from the U.S. It doesn’t say that they refused help from the US.

Also that’s fine…it’s not like the U.S isn’t chilling nearby…with bases in Japan, and 8 bases in the Philippines itself.

Headline is misleading, as they are still cooperating. All it says is that Manila knows that US help would be highly provocative and fuel the Chinese propaganda narrative that the Philippines is no more than a geopolitical pawn of Washington.

The main reason Marcos has decided to take a more assertive stance on the territorial dispute is the failure of his predecessor to resolve the dispute with an appeasment approach and a desire to bring international attention and ultimately, in the long term, force Beijing to back down.
