  1. It is male giant house spider. They are looking for females currently so sometimes they wander into homes. Not harmful but definitely imposing. If it would manage to bite it is not worse than bee sting. Good thing also is they don’t stay in homes and don’t really build webs in homes unless they are dirty etc. Next time catch it in container and release if you can 😊 fun fact they are the fastest spiders in the world!!

  2. Recently heard 1 walking on some vinyl flooring. Was expecting to see a mouse , only for this huge gangly coconut, to shoot under the skirting and up the wall. Beast of a thing.

For feck sake, don’t give them money!  There’d be no stopping them once they’re financed.

That’s the skin of a young spider, much like a snake they put grow their skin and shed the smaller size, it won’t work if you burn the house down their adult skin is fireproof. You have two choices either feed it the neighborhood pets or buy a saddle and use it to commute to work.

Oh no. Is it that time of year again?

I’m in a new apartment and I don’t know where the compromised areas of the apartment are that become spider hot spots.

It’s gonna be a rough few months.

Eratigena atrica or ‘giant house spider’.

I’ll never understand how so many Irish people literally live with these spiders but have no idea what they are and freak out (mostly in jest, I know) when they see them lol.

We generally only have 3 types of spiders that live with us: these, a shorter-legged version and the super skinny-legged cellar spiders that love bathrooms and high corners. That’s it…well apart from maybe a couple of false widow variants these days.

They are mostly harmless and eat other pests so better to just leave them be IMO.

I’d one in the kitchen the other night. It kept doing that thing where everytime you turn around it’s standing still, but closer to you.

I opened the back door and hooshed it out.

  8. Just post online your hosting 14 year old military aged migrants. Someone will burn it down for ya

  9. Get some peppermint oil and make up a spray this time of year and spray your window and doors around the edges. They don’t like the smell.

We get these and the lovely false widows this time of year. And the teeny mini spiders but they are ok

I caught a fucker a couple of weeks ago and I swear he was the the size of my palm. Herself was roaring at me to get him. Tried trapping him in a plastic cup, didn’t actually want to kill him but he was so determined to get away I ended up squishing him in the process.

I believe it was just a normal house spider, but it was an incredible size to my eyes anyway.

  11. IT’S A BANANA, we need a banana for scale not a coin. How many times do you have to be told.

  12. August & Sept are when we see spiders the most as they’re looking for mates. Long as it’s not a false widow you’d be grand

Do NOT kill those! Those are the Giant house spider,
and they are gentle giants and if you find them in your house you are lucky as they are great cleaners of destructive bugs you do not want in your house! They are big but they are afraid of humans and if you pick them up they try walk off of your hand. They are gentle and does not bite humans and even if they tried their fangs can not penetrate your skin but these are so gentle they don’t want to bite anyone. They like dark damp spaces best, like bathrooms and cellars, but they go into all homes and any room and not just during winter. They are GREAT at getting rid of other house pests that you do not want in your house so these eat silverfish, centipedes, picher bugs (earwigs), flies, mosquitoes, fleas, moths, and ants etc. I help them get out of mop buckets they might have fallen into, I let doors stand slightly open so they can go from room to room to clean the house of bugs. If I catch a fly myself I even go leave it by the spider. I have let many of these walk around on my hands and they are just looking for an exit to walk off your hand in a calm manner. They walk slow. They can have a leg span of a small hand palm so they grow large, hence the name Giant house spider. This is not a spider to fear, just the opposite.

  14. House spiders very active this time of year. Be careful it doesn’t run up your leg and bite your mickey

  15. I used to have an absolutely crippling fear of spiders but somebody on reddit said to me “Sure they’re harmless” and now I’m completely cured because it was such an unbelievably helpful thing to say!

  16. Looks like a two euro coin to me but let me call up my buddy who knows a lot about two euro coins to confirm.

Ah will you look as the liddle widdle baby spider. You know the fully grown ones can be 20 times that size. And have hundreds of babies every few months. You don’t see them much because they mostly come at night. Mostly.

    Sleep well!

  18. Harvest spider? I’ve heard that spraying your house with flea spray keeps them away.

  19. bonzo-best-bud-1 on

Thats a giant house spider and is the larger cousin of the House spider (Tegenaria domestica)
Now You’re gonna think I’m mad when I say this but trust me… You’re gonna want a new best friend, and its the cellar spider (looks like a daddy long legs) they eat the bigger spiders that make their way in this time of year looking to breed. You’ll see them in and around windows and doorways. They eat all the big ones like your pic and they eat the silver fish insects too.

Not trying to fearmonger but I’d call a hitman if I were you. Usually goes by the name of Dave. Yellow pages job.
