Lads, we’re Ireland. We were the terrorism capital of Europe for decades. This is by no means our first rodeo. Relax.

You’d have a hard job waking them up. “The sure aren’t we grand?” attitude applies across the entire system.
Actually spending money on security or policing or stuff like that… not going to happen.

God these “threats” are low down on the countries worries.

Pretty funny releasing this article a few days after we’ve found out that Israel has been breaching our sovereign air space. Bit hard to paint Russia as the boogeyman when a major nato ally is breaching our sovereign air space multiple times.

Pardon? Ireland has a population of 5.28 million and its army consists of around 6,000 people, while your #1 enemy UK has an army of 75,000 regular members. A military consisting of 6,000 soldiers cannot be considered a military.

Without properly funding and implementing a military capable of defending our “neutrality”, we are not in fact “neutral” at all. Simply sponges on neighbouring nations.

This whole debate is fucking ridiculous. Anyone who thinks our government should be investing in militarisation in the midst of a housing crisis, a climate crisis and a cost of living crisis is a moron without enough problems in their life. Russia is on the other side of Europe, they are not a threat to Ireland, they never have been, they never will.
The greatest threats to the security of Ireland, save our most obvious (and increasingly meddling) neighbours, are domestic; drug gangs, fascists, paramilitaries.

Lets not bother with cybersecurity – its not like the tech industry is the difference between Ireland being Albania with shit weather or a successful rich first world economy, with shit weather.
After all, Mick Wallace is against NATO and nuclear war – what a great lad he is – so naturally Ireland should have no ability to police its own waters, its own airspace or have any credible cyber warefare defence.
Shure who’d be interested in attacking Ireland’s national infrastrcture, hosting every major American company as a base of operations throughout the EU.
More NATO warmongering if you ask President of Ireland Moscow Mick Wallace and Mrs Moscow Mick Wallace, Clare Daly
You know “d real ppl”

Ireland must have some expeditionary defence capability to protect its citizens. Ireland is unable to conduct an evacuation of its citizens from a dangerous country by itself.
In Afghanistan, Irish citizens were evacuated by Britain, in Sudan they were evacuated by the French, in Libya they were evacuated by various European countries, In Lebanon some Irish citizens were evacuated by the Italians. The security in all those operations was provided by other countries.
The Former head of the Ranger Wing admitted that Ireland has no way to evacuate its citizens from dangerous places.

We assume that the UK and US would fight our battles for us. Poor assumption in my opinion. As the Ukraine war, and rumblings of a war in Taiwan show, the current favored strategy is to support from the back and leave the actual fighting to the locals. The support is also not for free.
