  1. We’re really pushing two-tier as the most overused phrase of the year aren’t we? Along with far right.

  2. If this was like any other festival it would have been moved to Hyde Park and be ticketed ages ago.

Is someone looking for a spot on GBNews as their “police correspondent“?

Sure, turning a blind eye to a bit of weed smoking while arresting those who assault police, loot shops and burn hotels with people inside is two-tier policing.

  4. > But carnivals in the past have also been marred by violence. There were eight stabbings and 275 arrests at the 2023 event and 7,000 Met Police officers are set to be deployed onto the streets of Kensington.

    Jesus.

Looks like the Daily Mail is really enjoying their new nonsense catchphrase.

They really think people are stupid enough to buy this shit.

Were the dailyheil et al moaning about two tier policing during the tory’s governance or is it just their thing since Labour have gained power?

Cos that would be two tier reporting.

By his definition there is without doubt two tier policing at football. If you shouted abuse at people in the street normally you’d be arrested. The amount of booze and coke at football and the resulting behaviour would land someone in prison if they were doing it alone in a street.

2 million people attend carnival every year. I have been 20 times and not had any trouble.

Policing has to be sensitive to any event to maintain order and not provoke.

When the police tried heavy handed militariesque tactictics it provoked a riot (1976).

If you know the history of why the carnival was set up then you’d have a better understanding of its cultural relevance.

  8. Jesus, Are we going to constantly have this “two tier” policing bollocks thrown at us now because of the racists rioting and getting convicted for being racist cunts.

  9. What’s the most bullshit thing is if you live in the North of England and carry drugs, the police yaknow, police it. If you’re in london where they make the laws, fuckjn nothing

The Daily Mail just upset that so many of their readers were arrested earlier this month.

  11. It’s impossible to safely manage a crowd that size when something goes wrong, and something will inevitably go wrong. The streets of any neighbourhood are not built to accommodate that kind of density of people. The debates about how much crime is too much crime and is it more crimey than Glastonbury is a side show to that any event is permitted to happen based on certain formulas on how many people can safely exist in a certain sized area. Notting Hill carnival will eventually have some sort of stampede event caused by who knows what or any other number of potential emergencies that have happened elsewhere (yes, including at ticketed festivals).

I’ve never thought the crime rates there were a convincing argument to modify how the event takes place, but something like say, Asake at Brixton Academy is a much bigger concern.

There are less arrests per capita at Carnival than any other festivals in the UK. If this is true than ever event has 2 tier policing.
