Americans are choosing Harris or Trump, not Harris or Gaza

  1. OMG, Washington Post opinion by someone that doesn’t have their head completely up their ….

    Just amazing.

Tell that to the Gaza nuts working to help Trump get elected so he can “finish the job”

  3. I should hope so!

I’ll likely get downvoted for this, but – I don’t care about the fucking Middle East one tiny bit for any side.

My earliest memories of watching TV news in the early 70s as a child had “Crisis in the Middle East” headlines.

It’s been non-fucking-stop my whole life. Oil Embargo? Middle East. Israel vs Egypt. Iran vs Iraq. Iranian Hostage Crisis. The Palestine Liberation Organization and Yassar Arafat. Iran Contra. Desert Storm. Iraq War. Hamas and Israel. It’s never stopped, always some internal problem or US meddling.

I stopped paying any attention to Middle East problems like Gaza a long time ago.

I realize it’s a big deal for younger people today. Yeah, I remember thinking the same back in mid 80s about something or other. The outrage. The horror at the loss of life. Forty years later, I just can’t keep up the outrage.

I’ll save my energy and efforts for something closer to home, instead of spending it on Middle East conflict N when there will be an N+1 to come along soon.

  4. Trump is literally telling Netanyahu not to make a deal until after he has been elected. Trump will give him a free run to do whatever he wants with support from the US administration.

  5. The vote is “Trump or Gaza”, in fact. Harris wants the Palestinians to eventually be able to govern themselves without Hamas. Trump wants the Palestinians dead so he can build Trump resorts over their scattered bones.

    This isn’t complicated.

  6. What I don’t understand is the fact that they’d happily vote for Bernie Sanders or AOC for President even though both Sanders and AOC have explicitly endorsed Harris and have said that their supporters need to vote for her and Walz.

If Harris is good enough for Sanders and AOC, why isn’t she good enough for them?

Trump told Netanyahu to “Finish the Job” and exterminate the Palestinians, but the Pro Gaza protestors are fine with helping him win.

It is rare I think for foreign policy issues to determine US elections. Domestic matters are way more relevant. Bill Clinton’s “It’s the economy, stupid”.

Although in a very close election where one Swing state could change the outcome, a few thousand votes conceivably could change the outcome.

I agree though, that by far Americans are not deciding between Harris and Trump or to not vote at all, because of Gaza.

And if Harris loses because of Gaza, it is not going to make Hamas supporters popular and courted to appease afterwards.

People need to watch michelle obama’s speech again.

STOP WORRYING ABOUT HAVING THE PERFECT Candidate.

You have TWO choices: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

    What future do you want?

When that’s settled then we can settle the gaza situation. There may even be a ceasefire before the election anyway.

  10. The single-issue Gaza voters are annoying. I saw a panel of Muslim voters saying they would vote for Trump over Kamala because “VP Harris hasn’t done enough.” When the interviewer said Trump wanted Bibi to “finish the job,” their response was “that’s a risk we’re willing to take.”

    Make it make sense.

  11. I’m exhausted of listening to leftists trying to shame me for voting for Harris to protect my own rights here at home over a group whose leaders would throw me off a building for being gay in Gaza.

  12. Vegan_Harvest on

I’m choosing Harris and Gaza. I haven’t given up on that, I just think she’s the only one running that will even listen.

  13. Anyone willing to throw our democracy away over a single issue doesn’t grasp the weight of the privilege that democracy affords them. As someone who recognizes the horror that Palestinians are experiencing, voting for Stein as a protest is peak stupidity.

  14. slingshotstoryteller on

Here’s the thing I want to scream at folks making this single issue turn them against VP Harris: People have been massacring other people in the Middle East for THOUSANDS of years for one reason or another and you have the audacity to think that a single American Vice President in less than a single year can magically make it all better? FFS! I cannot grasp the thinking of these folks. Yes, keep pushing to end US involvement in Israel because someone needs to, but for the sake of YOUR OWN CAUSE do not undermine the ONLY shot you have for justice in Gaza. Such short-sighted, self-aggrandizing fools.

  15. As much of travesty as I believe Gaza to be, there isn’t a single issue I can imagine that would have me not support anyone against Trump (short of said person being a mass murderer and even then I’d probably want to hear their side of it 1st 😂). But to anyone following this line of thinking, do they seriously believe Trump would be any better on the issue?

  16. The way I see it Trump will be awful for Gaza. With Kamala there is a possibility for the war to end sooner rather than later. So, I’m voting for Kamala. Not only for Gaza but to protect women and queer people in this the US which she will. And to prevent Trump from turning the US into a Christian nationalist country.

  17. duckduckduckgoose_69 on

If you actually care about Gaza, Harris 2024.

Any other option is delusional, at best.

  18. Almost everyone I know that is Gen Z is either not voting or voting third party because they think supporting Harris means supporting genocide. What I do not get is that even though Trump has made it clear he doesn’t care about Gaza, they give him a pass because the bar for Trump is extremely low versus Harris is expected to be the absolute perfect candidate on all fronts.

  19. I mean the Democratic administration is currently trying to broker a ceasefire. What more do they logically expect??? To go to war…oh wait

  20. icouldusemorecoffee on

The thing is every thinking person realizes, due to the past 10 months of evidence that Biden/Harris have actually *been working toward a permanent cease fire* while no one else has (name one other country or organization that has 1) gotten a cease fire or 2) is engaged with both sides and regional groups pursuing a cease fire)).

Those who call for an immediate cease fire are welcome to explain to the rest of us how that cease fire will come to be, give us some examples of how they think it would happen and what the result would be in and with Israel, Gaza, Hama, and surrounding countries and terorrist groups. Anyone, let us know.

  21. Foreign agents online (mostly Russia) are going to try and make this a wedge issue to depress the vote. They are essentially telling (usually young progressives) don’t votes so your conscious will be clean of supporting the genocide, We need to push back on these comments online when we see them and remind people what is at stake if they sit out.

  22. Daydream_machine on

I’ve witnessed firsthand how this issue has become a giant echo chamber. There’s no room for nuanced discussion, just angry performative activism about how because the current administration has failed to resolve a decades-long conflict, they deserve to be punished for it.

And then when you try to point out how the other party would be 100x worse for Gaza, you get either silence or an angry “Why are you being so smug? *This* is exactly why I’m voting for Trump/not voting for either one!”

There’s zero logic or sense to it. Just anger and seeking the dopamine hit of *feeling* morally superior.

  23. I genuinely do not understand why Harris is the one being protested against and not the pro-Israel candidate that wants to glass the Gaza strip.

  24. NotTheRightHDMIPort on

I have been told by people that a choice for Harris means I support genocide.

I got pissed and said, “Then if Trump wins it means you support forced birth if you wanna play that fucking game.”

Didn’t go over well, but I’m tired of the single issue left.

In short, I care deeply about the chaos in Gaza and want it to stop. But Harris losing will make *the fucking country I live in unbarable*.

Half of these dense fuckers actually want Trump to win because they believe they can engage in some kind of armed revolution.

These are coffee shop and online socialist who think because they went to some college protest that they are morally superior and they are insufferable assholes who help no one.

  25. For me its pretty straightforward, if Trump wins the GOP plans to revert Birthright Citizenship, and i would literally not count as an American anymore despite my parents coming here with nothing and sacrificing everything to ensure me and my siblings can have a future here.

I’m voting Hariss because her party *doesn’t* want to do that and is much more responsive when people say “hey don’t give Israel more bombs that kills children”. In comparison to Trump who wants Bibi to finish the job and his kids are literally frothing at the mouth at potentially taking Gaza land to build their own shit. Theres no if/ands/or buts about this, Trump is worse for Gaza, and hes worse cause he LITERALLY WANTS TO INSTILL A FUCKIN DICTATORSHIP HERE

  26. AOC was quoted as saying something like this to someone in the protest movement: “Under whose leadership would you rather be organizing?”

That makes a lot of sense.

Whether the so-called movement is organized at all might be another question entirely, but I digress.

  27. Choosing Harris is not the lesser of two evils. Only one candidate in this race is evil, and that’s Trump.

  28. Material_Mall_5359 on

The far-left is acting like keeping Harris out of the White House will somehow magically end the genocide in Gaza.

  29. Harris, while not perfect, is at least amenable to taking a harder stance on Netanyahu. Trump is part of why this mess is happening

  30. Anyone else just care about other things more? What’s happening in Gaza is objectively terrible. I can recognize that and also prefer focusing on all the other problems affecting us on a daily basis. Things like homelessness, lack of education, lack of mental health resources, lack of gun control, taxes, price gouging in stores (eggs that were around 3 for 18 should not now be $5+), inability to buy homes, lack of healthcare, drug prices, lack of preventative health education, abortion, etc.

As for Gaza itself, one candidate wants to wipe a country off the map. The other at least wants to try. But yeah, sure, they’re both the same.

  31. I’m voting for Harris because I’d rather fight with her over Gaza than I would Trump.

  32. If I hear “Pro-Hamas” again, Imma lose my shit. I’m left but pragmatic and I think many others are as well. Push the Dems to do the right thing but ultimately aware that Trump will be far far worse for Gaza.
