Japan's fisheries group calls for end to China's import ban on Japanese seafood The Japanese fisheries federation has urged the government to continue efforts to bring an end to China’s suspension of seafood imports from Japan.

The chief of the National Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations, Sakamoto Masanobu, made the call in a meeting with Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Saito Ken on Friday.

Sakamoto thanked the government for supporting the fisheries industry after the release of treated and diluted water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that began a year ago.

He said the industry has been seriously affected by China’s action to suspend imports of marine products from Japan.

He also said the industry can’t do anything by itself regarding China and Japan’s fishing community is very worried about the future.

Saito said the government has been urging Beijing on various levels to immediately remove the restrictions, which are not based on scientific evidence.
